There is nothing to buy or sell.

If you vote against something, you don't want it. That's how it works.
You either entirely missed the point or chose to ignore it. At the risk of reapeating myself, you are reducing the motivation behind the votes of Congress to the LCD. This is ok for school children, but doesn't work for me. Many people are aware of special interest groups, lobbyists, and others that influence the votes of Congressmen. "That's how it works" in the real world. Once again, it is called "realpolitik."

Happy New Year, if it doesn't offend you. :)

Tman - what we're pointing out here is that there is something to buy and sell - it's the votes. Has this gotten through, this time???

I'm not going to get into the argument of why people voted the way they did. There is a reason and it is complicated.

And I don't care.

You can't defeat the logic that if you vote against something you don't want it, regardless of why you voted that way. It's true no matter how hard you try.

There's logic there, tman, if you ignore the entire picture. If you want to do that, then yes, it's logical. However, closing your eyes to something does not mean it doesn't exist.

EDIT:- Come to that, how is it logical to ignore all the facts???

All statements are only relevent in a specified context which is always defined.

The context is the American political system - where horse-trading, etc, does take place. You can't ignore that.

In a technical context of the definition of voting, a vote against something means you do not wish the actions of that something to happen.

Not always. Sometimes it means you want another round of debate to renegotiate the terms.

No.

Again, you're conflating contexts.
