| moderat-e/o-r Location: boston Posts: 11,184 | i secretly love it when i see gas prices going up - because i know there are lots of greedy little piggies who drive unnecessary SUV's.. and since my car gets 30/40 mpg city/highway, and since i take public trans to work, high gas prices don't really affect me much at all.. *that's the price of freedom*.. really, though, the thing that i find despicable about this is that the anwr bill already failed but these corrupt "republicans" are still playing games to get it slipped into a bill that will undoubtedly be ratified by congress. all this for something that will provide a 1-3 year oil supply.. wh00p!!! now that's definitely something to get excited about.. reducing our dependence of foreign oil my ass. |

Where does the oil piped down the Alaska Pipeline end up? What makes you think this resource will be utilized any better than the existing resource that comes down the pipeline? |

We do not subscribe to the belief in global communities and governments. |

| Hardcore Capitalist Location: North Carolina Posts: 759 | I really donot care one way or the other. I donot really see how this is going to reduce our dependence on foreign oil (won't it be a couple of years, before this oil starts affecting prices?). The problem is not that there isn't enough crude oil. The problem is that there isn't enough refined oil, which comes from there not being enough refineries. Refineries are extremely expensive to build (they cost upwards of a billion dollars, if I remember correctly). As for more fuel efficient SUVs, I'm all for this. I don't like cars, as I like being high off the ground and most cars donot come with AWD, which is something I like to have (just in case).
