Al-Jazeera's editor-in-chief, Ahmed Sheikh, said his channel had broadcast the footage by mistake. Mr Sheikh said it had received the video in September and aired "the important parts" at the time. In the video, Bin Laden's deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, also claimed al-Qaeda was behind the London bombings on 7 July. "We got the videotape in September, and back then we aired what we thought were the important parts," Mr Sheikh told the AFP news agency.

If you boil the whole conflict down, it's between extremist muslims and extremist Christians/Jews. I guess we could ask what came first. There's this huge island of moderate and logical people caught in the middle. We will have to fight a battle of two fronts but the same type of enemy.

I seriously doubt that Al-Jazeera is pro western BTW. They may be pro-lining their own pockets on occasion. Bin Laden could be a decoy for us to chase. I don't know.

Al Jazeera's real transgression during the "war on terror" is a simple one: being there. While critical of the Bush Administration and US policy, it is not anti-American--it is independent. In fact, it has angered almost every Arab government at one point or another and has been kicked out of or sanctioned by many Arab countries. It holds the rare distinction of being shut down by both Saddam and the new US-backed government. It was the first Arab station to broadcast interviews with Israeli officials. It is hardly the Al Qaeda mouthpiece the Administration has wanted us to believe it is.
