In a surprise, the court said it would take up the case of Eric Michael Clark, who has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. He was a 17-year-old high school student when he shot Officer Jeff Moritz during a traffic stop in Flagstaff, Ariz., on June 21, 2000.

There was evidence that Clark believed his town had been taken over by aliens and that he was being held captive and tortured before the killing.

By this we should assume that one who is found guilty of murder is sane because those who are insane are not guilty? Therefore it is sane to murder someone? :confused: I yi yi! :rolleyes:

It doens't matter if you are insane. You still killed someone and should be treated as so.

I don't know about this. If someone is mentally ill they should have their own place. They are a different type of criminal.

I believe that there is a percentage of the population in all countries that could be classified as insane. They are not a danger to others so we let them be.

To deny the insanity plea, when one of the insane totally loses touch with reality and is dangerous - for an extended time, is just plain nutz...

Sometimes the ostrich view is convenient (head-in-the-sand). but that does nothing to solve the problem.
