All borders should be sealed except for ports of entry, that can be easily monitored on both sides. We should have open borders in the sense that we do not harbor bad intent toward legal visitors and future citizens, but we must have secure borders with controllable points of entry and exit. The Canadians have better control over their own immigrants and offer an attractive alternative, but the hispanics from Mexico and points south are overwhelming so this idea of a wall sounds atractive, it would solve a problem seen as in need of attention. Immigration as a problem has to do with the economy. When the economy grows immigrants are not as much of a problem since there are plenty of jobs, when the economy stagnates United Statians begin to wonder whether it makes sense to import this labour. Undocumented immigrants take menial jobs which proliferate when the economy grows. Documented immigrants are admitted to residen in the US by the most politically correct and proportionate ethno-religio-culturo-socio-economic and other profiles. Non-imigrant admissions are basically in reciprocal terms, though the US restricts and controls visits a bit more than most of the governments whose citizens visit them. If the idea of sealing the border with Mexico has anything to do with curtailing the hispanization of the US its too late. Hispanics already are the largest ethno/cultural group in the US and their demographic just continues to grow. Et semel emissum volat irrevocabile verbum. Raúl M. Núñez Sheriff |

Tourists provide evidence of where they will be staying and how they will support themselves, all of this is done before the visa gets issued. Tourists can extend their stay by means of an application with the immigration authorities. Some tourists likely do decide to remain in the US and this involves applying for residence and meeting the criteria established by the US. Those who simply don't leave and never comply with the immigration authority's regulations become excludable aliens subject to deportation after a summary hearing, which may result in their absence.
