Cheney calls war critics opportunists

Quote:
WASHINGTON - In the sharpest White House attack yet on critics of the Iraq war, Vice President Dick Cheney said on Wednesday that accusations the Bush administration manipulated intelligence to justify the war were a “dishonest and reprehensible” political ploy.

Cheney called Democrats “opportunists” who were peddling “cynical and pernicious falsehoods” to gain political advantage while U.S. soldiers died in Iraq.

“Some of the most irresponsible comments have, of course, come from politicians who actually voted in favor of authorizing force against Saddam Hussein,” Cheney told the Frontiers of Freedom Institute, a conservative policy group.

Its called politics. When you get an opportunity, you take it. The Republicans would do no less in the same situation.
It shouldn't be this way, but it is, and the Republicans bear as much responsibility for it being this way as the Democrats do, if not more.

Let's see. Cheney kept repeating the tired lie about Iraqi ties to AlQaeda long after the meeting he kept referencing in Praque was debunked by all reputable sources. He kept claiming that Saddam had reconstituted his nuclear program even though the evidence wasn't there. (He lated denied that he made such claims only to have the videtape played for him.) He appears to be hip deep in outing a CIA agent and putting other agents at risk for political vengance.

So who is dishonest and reprehensible here?

Cheney is a lying bastard whose only concept of defense is offense. So he comes out swinging. Big deal. Except for a few Bushbots, no one is buying his song anymore.

Blofeld was also the guy who said we would be attacked if Kerry was elected. He's like the punk on "Cops" who keeps saying "I didn't do nuthin" while the cops are pulling drugs and weapons out of his pockets.

It's expected, that's all. He or his pronouncements mean nothing.

they used this rhetoric during the last presidential campaign.. all it is is heated rhetoric, designed to get their apologists supporters all up in arms and excited again. it's the actions of a lame duck, fighting to remain relevant while his own party is distancing itself from him.

hot air and nothing more. bush pushed the red button to go to war, nobody else did - regardless of whether/not they voted for the war powers resolution.. the resolution, if any apologist should forget, gave bush the authority to wage war if deemed necessary. it DID NOT authorize the war.

only one administration here is accountable for the decision to invade - bush's administration.

hope for america...

I believe it is a political ploy.

It's a 'civil war' over who wants to control our gov't.

No deedee. This is called dissent. The civil war is what is breaking out in Iraq because of Bush's needless war.

Bush's gross criminal negligence in the unecessary launching and incompetent conduct of this war has caused our country, my country, great harm. THAT'S what I care about.

Hardly a "civil war" but it IS about control. Notice how Bush and Blofeld are specifying Democrats in their attacks on the critics, when there are a lot of independents, third party members AND a lot of disgusted Republicans against this war as well. They want to demonize the other side because they seem to be afraid of losing the control they now have.
