In the quoted statement (my translation of the cited source) one could replace "president" with "Iranian ruler" or maybe his name but the idea is clear; the head of state of Iran. His words have been rendered in US media as "wipe off" (the map), I've seen them in Spanish sources as "erase" (borrar), saying he called for their "erradication" is close enough. The best that can be made of this is that it could be excusable since the Iranian president was addressing a huge congregation of religious fanatics, but I still think the statement is very disturbing -particularly when coupled with an acknowledged Iranian capability to incinerate Jerusalem or Tel Aviv with nuclear bombs. In Iran we find both "motive" and "opportunity" for an announced crime against humanity. Et semel emissum volat irrevocabile verbum. Raúl M. Granted, they still have to generate enough fissionable material and then pack it into a warhead, they have the means and the intent to do so. Worse, according to their new president "Israel must be wiped off the map". Et semel emissum volat irrevocabile verbum. Raúl M. Núñez Sheriff Last edited by rmnunez; Nov 8, 2005 at 01:32 pm. |

Israel has never admitted possessing nuclear weapons, but abundant information is available showing that the capability exists. http://nuclearweaponarchive.org/Israel/ |

Can you offer a quotation from any of Israeli president (ruler) calling for the erradication of any Arab or similarly situated state, something like "Iran should be wiped off the map"? Iran's assertion doesn't contradict mine, as noted, they can turn the thing off and on. Et semel emissum volat irrevocabile verbum. Raúl M. Núñez Sheriff |

![]() Volcanic Erupter Location: España Posts: 2,586 | Revealed: Israel plans strike on Iranian nuclear plant Uzi Mahnaimi ISRAEL has drawn up secret plans for a combined air and ground attack on targets in Iran if diplomacy fails to halt the Iranian nuclear programme. The inner cabinet of Ariel Sharon, the Israeli prime minister, gave “initial authorisation” for an attack at a private meeting last month on his ranch in the Negev desert. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...522978,00.html An Israeli professor and military historian hinted that Israel could avenge the holocaust by annihilating millions of Germans and other Europeans. Speaking during an interview which was published in Jerusalem Friday, Professor Martin Van Crevel said Israel had the capability of hitting most European capitals with nuclear weapons. "We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets of our air force." how many more would you like me to show you? |

(The Brits have the capability of nuking the French and vice versa.) Y'know, contignency planning for targeting of nuclear weapons is hair-raising stuff. None of this changes the fact that the Iranians' primary motivation in seeking nukes is (1) macho, chest-thumping status-affirmation and (2) insurance against a US invasion. No one in the Middle East who wasn't actively planning to destroy Israel has ever had to fear Israeli nukes.
