What you need is better vocabulary. In the quoted statement (my translation of the cited source) one could replace "president" with "Iranian ruler" or maybe his name but the idea is clear; the head of state of Iran. His words have been rendered in US media as "wipe off" (the map), I've seen them in Spanish sources as "erase" (borrar), saying he called for their "erradication" is close enough. The best that can be made of this is that it could be excusable since the Iranian president was addressing a huge congregation of religious fanatics, but I still think the statement is very disturbing -particularly when coupled with an acknowledged Iranian capability to incinerate Jerusalem or Tel Aviv with nuclear bombs. In Iran we find both "motive" and "opportunity" for an announced crime against humanity.

I saw a note they had the missile range (courtesy of North Korea) and the IAEA says they have a uranium enrichment plant they can turn on and off depending on the generosity of EU offers. Granted, they still have to generate enough fissionable material and then pack it into a warhead, they have the means and the intent to do so. Worse, according to their new president "Israel must be wiped off the map".

Israel most certainly has the capability of hitting some European capitals. Big deal. (The Brits have the capability of nuking the French and vice versa.)
Y'know, contignency planning for targeting of nuclear weapons is hair-raising stuff.

None of this changes the fact that the Iranians' primary motivation in seeking nukes is (1) macho, chest-thumping status-affirmation and (2) insurance against a US invasion.

No one in the Middle East who wasn't actively planning to destroy Israel has ever had to fear Israeli nukes.

I doubt anyone in the Middle East actively planning to destroy Israel has had reason to fear an Israeli nuclear attack. We know there are lots of terrorists in Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Lebanon and the vicinity who actively plan the destruction of Israel, worse, they put their plans into action -but they've never been nuked.
