Sheehan Arrested Outside White House

Washington Post
Quote:
Cindy Sheehan, the grieving California mother of a soldier slain in Iraq, was arrested today while protesting the Iraq war outside the White House.

Sheehan, whose 24-year-old son Casey was killed last year, and several dozen other protesters staged a sit-in on the sidewalk on Pennsylvania Avenue after marching along the pedestrian walkway, the Associated Press reported. Police warned them three times that they had to move along before making arrests, the news agency said.

Has anyone ever heard of someone being arrested at a pro-war rally?

Hawks don't usually attend rallies they do it by using the ballot box! When an occasional Hawk attends a protest rally he/she obeys the law. I guess thats the answer to your query..:)

So Cindy is following in the example of Martin Luther King and others. She speaks truth to power and will help bring an end to this horrible war. A great lady.

First of all there is no need for a pro-war rally.......Our war monger in chief is going to war regardless of public opinion.
As for the ballot box: When exactly did you vote for this God Damn war? I never got a ballot.

I heard that over a hundred people were arrested for demonstrating on the White House sidewalk without a permit. (They had a permit to demonstrate in the park but not on the sidewalk.) Because Cindy is well know, her arrest makes the news, which is no doubt why she arranged to get arrested in the first place.

All those arrested have been given citations and released with a $50 dollar fine.

On the Huffington post, Cindy Sheehan writes that it's a false report.

Are you serious? The majority of both Congressional Houses voted for an invasion did they not? This was before the fact. Thats how you and I vote for or against war or anything else is it not?
If you concede the point then make tracks to the ballot box next time and or write you congressperson with you complaints.

Our President is not a war monger he is a perceptive guy who sees the only way to fight international terrorism is to mount a real offense against it. In this case he wanted to stabilize the middle east and, send a warning to nations harboring terrorists;to act rather than posture and talk as his predecessor did.

Public opinion is largely created by the press and media in this country. They also create the polls which allegedly reflect public opinion. In fact they reflect the responses to carefully constructed questions sometimes designed to elicit answers the pollster desires. If you are so easily duped by the inflation of the responses to questions you're not privy to, thats your prioblem and I can't help you.

Cindy Sheehan is a dupe and pawn of the extreme left! Her rallies are attended by communists like Ramsey Clark and racist communists like Cynthia McKinney, as well as political opportunists and blackmailers like Jessie Jackson..plus a bunch of impatient people who firgure a war has to run like a TV program with a fixed time frame. They are funded by the the Democrat moneyman Soros.

Cindy Sheehan didn't even raise her unfortunately deceased son! He was raised by his father and stepmother and he was an adult who VOLUNTEERED to serve his country. She may morn him but she isn't representing his chosen path...to fight for his country wherever and whenever required.

An explanation is needed as to how this ?great lady ? will help bring an end to this occupation and rebuilding event in the Iraqi conflict? Got one? We already won the war inspite of what you read in the press!

It amuses me how expert our citizenry is becoming on how to fight a war and accomplish a mission that their representatives voted for. I can remember all the experts saying we were moving to slow, allowing museums to be ransacked, bypassing ammo dumps, stretching our supply lines too far, couldn't catch Saddam, too few troop[s to accomplish the mission, ad nasueam. inexpert tripe and news catching nonsense!

Might I suggest that you sould like the dupe of the war mongers who really don't give a damn about our troops dying in an immoral war.

When last month I stood in the twilight with friends and neighbors holding a candle, in silent vigil to show our solidarity with Cindy Sheehan and all the other Gold Star mothers and fathers, I didn't see any communists or extremists lurking in the bushes. We were all just mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, who care deeply for the country and who all mourn for the needless death caused by this unnecessary war.

Your comments about Sheehan's relationship with her son are beneath contempt. Not greatly unlike the rest of your commentary, come to think of it.

What truth have you read or heard Cindy speak? All I get is she wants to talk to the President and tell him to stop the war? That's opinion and opinion may or may not be truth..most probably it isn't since she has an anti war agenda!

Yes I am a dupe I guess because I served my country in combat in three wars during the last century. WW2, Korea, and Vietnam.
I volunteered, and though I saw flaws in our involvement in Korea and Vietnam it was my job just as Cindy's son felt it was his jov to serve without complaint. I felt we military participats deserved support!

To me patriotism is supporting the decisions of ones representatives in Congress and the Presidency. I also feel that the military forces, actually fighting and occupying Iraq, are the experts and this antiwar nonsense, generated by people who don't know whats really going on, is harmful to the morale of those in harms way. Impatient people ignorant in the ways of war, should follow the rule of law and use the ballot box rather than demonstrating in an attempt to get others to feel as they do. I resent those who use unsulting language (war mongers)to try to make their points. I suggest you fit that mould and also suggest you don't know what you are demonstrating about!

The case for war was full of fraud and LIES. Are lawyers allowed to blatantly lie, when presenting their case. This is not a poker game where you are expected to bluff. This isnt a goddamn game at all, innocent people have been murdered.

And when those terrorists that we murdered turn out to be completely innocent of any crime, have never attacked America nor her allies.......then what? That is why war should be a last resort. But the pile of shit sitting on the throne in the white house pumps his fist like a punk juvinile delinquent and declares "Feels Good!". When he first declared this illegal war.
Then warns Iraqi citizens not to burn his oil wells.

xyzer, Thank you for your service to our country. I was starting to feel alone in this forum. There are some other threads going now, where they think our newly enlisted men and woman are "drop-outs", dumbed-down, brain-washed.... One poster even said I hope the army dosen't meet it's quota. The only thing Cindy Sheehan is doing is giving joy to our enemies. She would be a much better leader if she would come to the public and solicite or offer solutions and ideas of what we could do to help our country and servicemen to end the war sooner. I read that the group had a permit for a walking protest, not a sit-in. Police asked her 3 times to move along and she refused. Is that what you do to get attention, break the law, so you can get arrested and try and bring more pubplicity to yourself? I feel very badly for her and every other moms and dads losses due to the war, but I think she should go about honoring her son's memory in a different way.

Do you have a link? I just went there, no sign of it. 24 minutes ago:
Quote:

WASHINGTON - Cindy Sheehan, the California mother who became a leader of the anti-war movement after her son died in Iraq, was arrested Monday along with hundreds of others protesting outside the White House.

I resent those who blindly support (lynch mobs) an evil cause. To kill babies for oil is truly evil and the greedy bastards are going to get us attacked. Yes over here, and not just over there. You cant put the bullett back in the gun but you CAN set the gun down. As long as any rednecks support this war, they (the war lords) have justification in their own feeble, bloody minds

I keep reading that but I just don't buy it. When under fire, as I and hundreds of others were in Southeast Asia, what the people back home thought about what we were doing was the furthest thing from our minds. Getting our asses back to camp in one piece was our sole consideration. Even though I had been an outspoken opponent of the war before enlisting, I forgot all about that once the bullets started flying.
I'm still proud of having fought in an effort to preserve the freedom to protest openly and without fear in this country.

I was nearly drafted to fight in Vietnam. They were ten or so numbers away from mine when they stopped that year, or else I might have been sucked into that other needless and stupid war. I had friends whose older brothers died in Vietnam and others who were never the same after coming back. I never believed the lie that they died "fighting for their country" because they didn't. They may have died for global politics, for Lyndon Johnson or Robert McNamarra, but their country was never in danger. I have never had any respect for those who claimed that their deaths were noble. They may have been noble but the war was not. It was merely wrong. It dishonors the dead to tell lies over their graves.

The war in Iraq was justified wholly by lies and now fine Americans are dying in yet another needless war. How little we have learned.

I live in what was once the shadow of the World Trade towers. I want my president to seriously fight the war on terror. Instead he let Osama Bin Laden go so that he launch his own dirty little war. Now the mad king's own CIA says that Iraq is a becoming a more dangerous breeding ground for terrorists than Afghanistan was after the Russian occupation. So we are now far less safe because of Bush's war.

I have no interest in a "patriotism" that involves following orders, voting in a rigged elections and standing silent as those in power attack our Constitution and send tens of thousands off to be killed or maimed in a war built on lies. As a patriotic American I feel that I have no choice but to raise my voice. I am proud to stand with Cindy.

First, before I argue with you I want to thank you for your service.

Quote:
To me patriotism is supporting the decisions of ones representatives in Congress and the Presidency.
That used to be the case, but that argument no longer holds water in these VERY different times. It is apparent to me that the leaders of yesterday were a hell of a lot more honorable than the crop of self-serving opportunists and liars we have now. I believe, with little exception any time we were committed to a war there was a damn good reason, and usually ONE good reason. With Iraq it was WMD, then terrorism, then liberating the Iraqis, and now we are there under the false banner of fighting terrorism AND freeing the Iraqis. Even IF there were terrorists in Iraq, and I firmly believe Saddam Hussein would never allow them, what we are doing can't be logically called fighting terrorism. For one reason, and the biggest reason, terrorism is MOBILE! Iraq isn't going anywhere but terrorists are all over the world.
No sir, I cannot agree with you, because the men leading this country are of suspect character (to put it mildly) and no longer have EARNED to privilege of being unquestioningly supported by the people.

Quote:
I also feel that the military forces, actually fighting and occupying Iraq, are the experts and this antiwar nonsense, generated by people who don't know whats really going on, is harmful to the morale of those in harms way.
When I hear that argument I always hear echoes. On the one hand anyone opposing the (or any) war is demoralizing the troops and on the other hand I her the same people saying recruitment is high and many soldiers are reenlisting. The one cancels out the other and you attribute a lot more power to the protesters than they actually have.
And I do not believe the soldiers on the ground are the "experts" as you claim because they obviously didn't send themselves over there nor do they plan the battles, etc.. They go where and do what they're told. The people responsible for this are safely back in Washington while our people risk their lives (and many lose them) for highly questionable reasons.

Quote:
Impatient people ignorant in the ways of war, should follow the rule of law and use the ballot box rather than demonstrating in an attempt to get others to feel as they do.
First, it is not necessary to be familiar with "the ways of war" when you oppose governmental policy that you believe to be wrong. When people exersize their right to protest they are acting in the finest example of patriotism and doing what they feel strongly about. It is not necessary for you to agree with their reasons, only to support their right to act as free Americans.

Quote:
I resent those who use unsulting language (war mongers)to try to make their points. I suggest you fit that mould and also suggest you don't know what you are demonstrating about!
A "monger" is someone who sells things. A "war monger" is someone who sells (tries to generate support for) war. What else would you call them?

I can think of a LOT more insulting things to call politicians.

Are these the statements that those of you who support Cindy Sheehan stand by?????

"America has been killing people on this continent since it was started. This country is not worth dying for..."
"When I was growing up, it was Communists. Now it's Terrorists. So you always have to have somebody to fight and be afraid of, so the war machine can build more bombs, guns, and bullets and everything."
"They're not waging a War on Terror but a War of Terror. The biggest terrorist is George W. Bush."
"My son joined the army to protect America, not Israel."
"You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and you'll stop the terrorism."
"Thank God for the Internet, or we wouldn't know anything, and we would already be a fascist state."
"George Bush needs to stop talking, admit the mistakes of his all around failed administration, pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans."
"We have this lying bastard, George Bush, taking a 5-week vacation in a time of war."

What others say elsewhere really doesn't matter here. Why didn't you quote some of the Volconvo members on this topic. Plenty have posted their riffs on Bush.
