Cindy Sheehan didn't even raise her unfortunately deceased son! He was raised by his father and stepmother .
Like so much of what xyzer claims, this statement about Cindy and Casey Sheehan is completely factually wrong.

Urban Legands - Cindy Sheehan
Quote:
The piece quoted above, criticizing Ms. Sheehan's alleged lack of involvement in her son's upbringing after divorcing his father, is something fabricated out of whole cloth, evidently the product of someone's confusing a completely different family with the Sheehans. Cindy Sheehan and her husband, Patrick, were high school sweethearts who wed while both were in their early 20's and who have been married to each other for over 28 years. (Neither has ever been married to anyone else.) The couple had four children together, of whom Casey was the oldest. Both parents raised Casey together, first in the southern California community of Norwalk and later in the northern California town of Vacaville, where the Sheehans moved when Casey was 14.

Youve heard about Cindy being arrested, again. This time INSIDE the Capitol building! She seems to be getting closer to the answer to her simple question; WHY?

Here's Cindys' side of the story:
Quote:
Cindy Sheehan: 'My arrest: What really happened'

Date: Wednesday, February 01 @ 09:54:38 EST

Cindy Sheehan

Dear Friends,

As most of you have probably heard, I was arrested before the State of the Union Address tonight.

I am speechless with fury at what happened and with grief over what we have lost in our country.

There have been lies from the police and distortions by the press. (Shocker) So this is what really happened:

This afternoon at the People's State of the Union Address in DC where I was joined by Congresspersons Lynn Woolsey and John Conyers, Ann Wright, Malik Rahim and John Cavanagh, Lynn brought me a ticket to the State of the Union Address. At that time, I was wearing the shirt that said: 2245 Dead. How many more?

After the PSOTU press conference, I was having second thoughts about going to the SOTU at the Capitol. I didn't feel comfortable going. I knew George Bush would say things that would hurt me and anger me and I knew that I couldn't disrupt the address because Lynn had given me the ticket and I didn't want to be disruptive out of respect for her. I, in fact, had given the ticket to John Bruhns who is in Iraq Veterans Against the War. However, Lynn's office had already called the media and everyone knew I was going to be there so I sucked it up and went.

I got the ticket back from John, and I met one of Congresswoman Barbara Lee's staffers in the Longworth Congressional Office building and we went to the Capitol via the undergroud tunnel. I went through security once, then had to use the rest room and went through security again.

My ticket was in the 5th gallery, front row, fourth seat in. The person who in a few minutes was to arrest me, helped me to my seat.

I had just sat down and I was warm from climbing 3 flights of stairs back up from the bathroom so I unzipped my jacket. I turned to the right to take my left arm out, when the same officer saw my shirt and yelled; "Protester." He then ran over to me, hauled me out of my seat and roughly (with my hands behind my back) shoved me up the stairs. I said something like "I'm going, do you have to be so rough?" By the way, his name is Mike Weight.

The officer ran with me to the elevators yelling at everyone to move out of the way. When we got to the elevators, he cuffed me and took me outside to await a squad car. On the way out, someone behind me said, "That's Cindy Sheehan." At which point the officer who arrested me said: "Take these steps slowly." I said, "You didn't care about being careful when you were dragging me up the other steps." He said, "That's because you were protesting." Wow, I get hauled out of the People's House because I was, "Protesting."

I was never told that I couldn't wear that shirt into the Congress. I was never asked to take it off or zip my jacket back up. If I had been asked to do any of those things...I would have, and written about the suppression of my freedom of speech later. I was immediately, and roughly (I have the bruises and muscle spasms to prove it) hauled off and arrested for "unlawful conduct."

After I had my personal items inventoried and my fingers printed, a nice Sgt. came in and looked at my shirt and said, "2245, huh? I just got back from there."

I told him ........... Click

Has anyone ever heard of someone being arrested at a pro-war rally?
The right doesn't use the "rally" tactics that the left uses. The left protesters like to disrupt the rallies from the right just want to inform.

If Sheehan was ordered to leave, she should have left. Since she didn't she was arrested.

Grieving mother my ass. She's a crazy opportunist, and her son is turning over in his grave. Her son went to war to fight and win. She has turned his sacrifice into a clammer for surrender! The rest of her family have shunned her, and for good reason.

Sheehan's son wanted to fight and kill the enemy and win the war! He went willingly. He had a dangerous job (medic) they have a very high chance of being wounded/killed.

If he could be resurrected he'd spit into his mother's eye.

Sheehan arrested in House gallery

Wednesday, February 1, 2006; Posted: 7:50 a.m. EST (12:50 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Peace activist Cindy Sheehan was arrested Tuesday in the House gallery after refusing to cover up a T-shirt bearing an anti-war slogan before President Bush's State of the Union address.

According to a blog post on Michael Moore's Web site attributed to Sheehan, the T-shirt said, "2,245 Dead. How many more?" -- a reference to the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq.

"She was asked to cover it up. She did not," said Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman.

Schneider said Sheehan was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on charges of unlawful conduct, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail.

She was handcuffed and held in the Capitol building until she was driven to the Capitol Police headquarters for booking. According to her blog, she was released about four hours after being arrested.

Hitlers troops were all patriots........

Hell I just read sheehans account of it.....that is scary...really scary. Your country has been taken over...I am sure all of you realise it, the question is what can be done?

So you wanted Sheehan to crash the President's speech? It's just not done. We listen with respect to the president. Sheehan only respects the loons on the left. She's pissing on her son's grave.

We live, you see, by the rule of law. She broke the law. She confronted the cops at a time when there's a big security issue. She should have been arrested. She was only held for 1.5 hours I understand.

Big deal.

Is that a breaking and/or shocking news ?

xyzer, Thank you for your service to our country. I was starting to feel alone in this forum. There are some other threads going now, where they think our newly enlisted men and woman are "drop-outs", dumbed-down, brain-washed.... One poster even said I hope the army dosen't meet it's quota. The only thing Cindy Sheehan is doing is giving joy to our enemies. She would be a much better leader if she would come to the public and solicite or offer solutions and ideas of what we could do to help our country and servicemen to end the war sooner. I read that the group had a permit for a walking protest, not a sit-in. Police asked her 3 times to move along and she refused. Is that what you do to get attention, break the law, so you can get arrested and try and bring more pubplicity to yourself?.

Why is it people like yourself can always see the Blue Collar crime, and demand that something be done, yet your elected representative tramples the constitution under foot, and you cheer him on like a schoolgirl with a crush?

All legitimate laws are based on constitutional law, and with your President overriding those laws, he is a far greated danger the average citizen than Cindy could ever be.

Why aren't all of you "Do Gooders" calling for a little real justice by demanding that the government obey tha danm laws as well?

Could it be an agenda?

She didnt "Crash" anything. She was invited.

Cindy respects our troops. Thats why she is not just falling in line with all the Kool-Aid addled blood thirsty, pagan murderers who declare war but have never fought in one. bush is a war deserter. Put that on a t-shirt and make him wear it during his celebration of lies. They have dishonored the dead soldiers by throwing Cindy in jail for mentioning the number. 2245 murdered for profit. Do you know why Cheney looked like he was ready to drop into a trap door at any second? Look how important this war is to him:

By demanding to know why he had to die? You ARE confused, arent you?
Quote:
We live, you see, by the rule of law
What do you mean "WE"?

I thought your side was above the law?
Quote:
She broke the law.
She was not informed the shirt was wrong. Another woman had a War shirt on, but wasnt arrested. Her shirt also supported the troops, just like Cindy's.
Quote:
She confronted the cops at a time when there's a big security issue.
Nope. Did you read Cindys unfolding of events? No confrontation.

....... If you are referring to the thread title that was old news. (sorry for any misunderstanding, check post dates)

Milton B.,
Irene may not be around anymore. I didnt want to start a new thread for Cindys arrest last night, I just dug up an old thread to tag this item on.

Edit to repair grammar.

You DO know that the Wife of a republican congressman wearing a pro war T-shirt was also denied entry to the event?

She was simply smart enough to walk away without flapping her gums.

Sheehan is a narcissist who is desperately seeking to make her 15 minutes last longer.

Sounds different from your account. Hers is a first hand account. Did you pull your account from some orifice?

I know! an outrage, right? There was a story available on this earlier in the day. AP dropped it why? You should be angry that the pro-war lady was thrown out. She wasn't denied entry. I'm waiting on your sorry responses in other threads BTW.

Maybe she was on her way to the "Free Speech Zone" to voice her opinion, but it was conveniently out of camera, and microphone range.

Wouldn't want there to appeare to be any dissent in a country of 290,000,000, right? :(

A war on T-shirts would be easier to win than a war on a guerilla tactic, or an emotional state (terror)

But, it boils down to thought crimes. Very hard to control until spoken.

Bush is unarmed to challenge a rational thought. He abhors criticism

i never really looked much into cindy sheehan. but as far as i know everyone that is serving this country goes on their own will (unless somewhere i missed the draft being reinstated). And i can understand the woman being upset that he son is dead, what mother wouldnt be? and sorry if any of the following seems heartless. Does this woman realize that shes not the only mother who has lost a son in combat? Did she not want her son to go? if so then to me that explains her actions. basically ( if my assumptions are correct) this woman is either against the war ( i dont know, i never looked into sheehan that much) or against our gov't for something that her son willingly did, and going into i'm sure he knew the risk of death.

in closing, she needs to quit. its not like the gov't forced her son to go to war, he chose to go. she needs to realized that her son died to protect her freedom and quit being selfish.

I think it was bad form to wear that T-shirt but I haven't heard anything about her breaking any law against T-shirts. I DID hear, however, that there are no prohibitions against such shirts in the gallery. I'm assuming the rules are different for SOTU speeches but I have never heard just WHAT law was broken.

The house has a rule against protests in the gallery. That rule has long been interpreted to include clothing that makes the kind of statement both shirts involved displayed.

It was bad form.

A no big deal story blown into a conspiracy theory
