| Principled Observer Location: Toledo, Ohio Posts: 13,873 | The whole point of it being removed, is that it never should have had the RIGHT to be added. It just took THIS LONG for it to be intelligently challenged, and it's about time. Think about the mentality and basis for argument on having it added...... "gee, uh, we here before you(in the courtroom) believe in God, and think it would be really neato if you could like include this in the pledge for EVERYONE IN THE NATION to recite, and make it official." "Gee, ok, I believe in God too, so let's do that so EVERYONE has to recite it this way." Yes, that is pure sarcasm, to highlight the ridiculousness of it EVER being added. | Igneous Magma Posts: 672 | in a few years, my child is going to school. if by then they haven't removed the words and still require the pledge daily, i will tell her to sit out every time. personally i'm for the total removal of the pledge, like rick suggested. it was enacted in 1942 during ww2 anyway. plus, when the little kids are reciting it, do they really understand the meaning of it? if not why encourage or even force them to do that? this has nothing to do with whether we are religious. rather it's a separation of the state and the church issue. economic left/right: -3.38 social libertarian/authoritarian: -3.59 |
