Robertson: U.S. should 'take out' Venezuela's Chavez

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/23/rob...vez/index.html

Quote:
(CNN) -- Conservative Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson has called for the United States to assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, calling him "a terrific danger" bent on exporting Communism and Islamic extremism across the Americas.

"If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it," Robertson told viewers on his "The 700 Club" show Monday. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war."

Robertson, a contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 1988, called Chavez "a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us badly."

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said. "We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

hope for america...

Good to see old Pat loves his enemies, and has no problem grappling with the ever so tough issue of forgiving, and forgeting.

He even skipped right over the "legislate them all into a corner" tactic so favored these days, and went right for the juggular, and called for his execution. Nice work.

Is this what Jesus would say? Finally the mask of christianity has completely slipped from Robertson's face. He stands exposed by his own words as a man of hatred and murder. It'll be impossible to defend those comments on Judgement Day. He's toast...

It may not be what Jesus would do, but it sure sounds like his dad did in the O.T.

Good point.

He even applied the same tactic. Not wanting to soil his own hands in the matter, he authorizes others to kill in his name.

Great observation.

It's very brave of Pat to advocate Chavez' murder at someone else's hands.

Just out of curiosity, can anyone tell me how much influence Robertson really has? I'm very isolated from the Bible Belt and I don't know anyone who thinks of him as anything but a crank. That aside, I imagine he must have hordes of followers to be so successful.

He has a following, but when people start going off kilter it's a sign they are losing power and relevance and they get desperate.

Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route?

The political power that these moral majority types 'had' is slipping away - Finally. With opinions such as these is it any wonder the distrust of Americans the rest of the world has.

If he recommended this action internally he would be in jail. A call to his followers to support an act such as this is the same wrong religious tactic that Khomeini had when he issued a death warrant for Richidi.

Fundies of any religious bend should be avoided.

He sure ain't no Billy Graham. :)

From 2004:
Quote:
Robertson, an ardent Bush supporter, told CNN in an interview Tuesday night that he urged the president to prepare the American people for the prospect of casualties before launching the war in March 2003.

Robertson said Bush told him, " 'Oh, no, we're not going to have any casualties.' "

"The president never made such a comment," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said.
And did anyone else catch the Daily Show last week when they showed Robertson praying on his show for another Supreme Court vacancy, in essence praying for the death of a Supreme Court justice?

If god's talking to Robertson, he must be screaming, "Shut Up!".

Sorry, bishop, I posted similar after you. I had checked. Yours got elevated to 'Latest New' so I'll propose that mine is dumped.

Four facts first
1. Due to a 'power outage' read bomb, there is no OIL coming from Iraq.
2. Oil from Ecuador had stopped due to militant action by Ecuadorian workers.
Ecuador oil protesters call truce

3. Oil prices continued to peak due to 1. and 2. until Chavez from Cuba offered to make good Ecuador's commitments. Although it may may not been in Venezuelan national interest, that simple input by Hugo immediately stabilized oil prices.
4. Venezuela has no problem selling its oil. It recently open an oil office in China.
VENEZUELAN News
My conclusions:
Although Robinson may well be speaking on behalf of a sizable number of Americans on his ideas about Hugo, I'd bet this is one occasion when the bushies wished that he'd kept his mouth shut. I'm no talking about the embarrassment of a very prominent 'church' US leader calling for the MURDER of an very much loved leader, it is that while he is going you a BIG FAVOUR you SPIT IN HIS FACE.

Further, everything he has alleged - the coup attempt, CIA, assassination attempts, etcetera - will all now be MORE BELIEVABLE.

The god of bush and the god of robinson are speaking into the wrong ears.

How long before we see a big push for the U.S. to open its strategic oil reserves?

I don't know Bush's stance on something like that, but I suggest the request will be made before much more time passes. The press really has become pretty darned predictable. Allow me to summerize, and make my prediction.

My bet, first snap of cold weather, and the media hounds will clamour for the President to "do something". (of course they know in advance what that "something" is, they just want us to think they arrive at this great idea in a round of Group Think, and notice how they all seem to share the same opinion, and thus we have popular concensus among the pundits, so it must be the right thing to do, right. Then, segue into the Media Parrots to regugitate the same Talking Points we just heard the Pundits proclaiming the day before, and cycle is complete. Now you know exactly what to think)

We do not have that ability or we would have used it in Iraq and to take out OBL. Oh thats right, we needed bases in the MEand to control the oil and water. An assassination would not facilitate that. Same goes for Venezuela, do you think the bankers and oilmen who planted bush in office would just overlook the oil reserves (oil reserves ranking 5th in th world, I believe)

From Chicago Tribune:
Quote:
"You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it," Robertson said. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."

Venezuela is a major supplier of oil to the United States.
He "Doesnt think any oil shipments will stop! " The corporate controlled bush puppet isnt going in without taking their oil for plunder. And if we take their oil fields do you think it means WE the People will see any of it? That prices will drop? HA HA Ha!
Does anyone still think Iraq oil is just a coincidence? That we are "LIBERATORS"?!?!?

Its about CONTROL of the oil fields. Its all about POWER. Gas is almost $3.00 (I paid $2.69 gallon, yesterday at AM/PM. Used to be cheapest there I am going to have to shop around again)

Pat Robertson is the kind of religous zealot we are supposedly fighting against. He is starting to parallel OBL.

Remember when Pat Robertson said; "If the KKK is fighting gay marriage I am joining them"?

Maybe Robertson should be taken out, before Chavez.

Chavez was democratically elected, more than bush can say.

ooops! I goofed. I went to find the exact quote AFTER my last post. It wasnt Pat Robertson, but Rev. Gregory Daniels (a black Baptist preacher) who said "If the K.K.K. opposes gay marriage, I would ride with them."
Some wise guy said, "It would be a short ride"

Edit to add:
I mis-heard that quote on the radio this morn, they were talking about robertson one minute then that quote came up in the story.....bleh

The sad thing is most people in the "Bible Belt" believe the exact same thing and agree with the man.

Let's not forget that extraordinarily intrusive foreign policy, which gives politically active foreigners all sorts of entirely justifiable reasons to rail against the U.S.
I'd like to believe that the political sway of religious fundamentalism is eroding, but it seems to me that the fundies have more sway than any time since the Gipper's reign.

Robertson calls Chavez
Quote:
"a terrific danger" bent on exporting Communism and Islamic extremism across the Americas
The CIA Fact Book has Venezuela listed as Federal Republic (Definition)

Maybe Robertson should stick to mythology alone and not mix it up with politics.
