Al Qaeda threatens more UK, U.S. attacks

http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/me...don/index.html

Quote:
In a video broadcast Thursday on Arabic-language TV station Al Jazeera Ayman al-Zawahiri also issued a warning for the United States.

"To the British, I am telling you that Blair brought you destruction in the middle of London and more will come, God willing," he said.

He appeared to be referring to the two attacks on London's transit system on July 7 and July 21. The first bombings killed 52 commuters and the four bombers. No one was killed in the second attack, in which the bombs failed to detonate.

In the videotape released Thursday, Zawahiri also issued several warnings for the United States.

Referring to the September 11, 2001 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people, he said: "Our message is clear -- what you saw in New York and Washington and what you are seeing in Afghanistan and Iraq, all these are nothing compared to what you wil see next."

He also warned the U.S. to "stop stealing our oil and wealth and stop supporting corrupt rulers."
Yes...let's just give in and pull out of the whole Middle East/stop supporting Israel  These guys are nuts and I cannot imagine what they would do in terms of human rights if we left the region entirely.

Notice this nutjob says "more terror will come, god willing". That is what we are dealing with. A group that wishes to enslave its masses under this violent ideology, and a determined following that will kill anyone who interferes.

Wouldn't it have been nice if the Bush administration actually pursued the War on Terror rather than invading a country that never attacked us, creating a breeding ground for Al Queda which wasn't there before?

George Bush has become Bin Laden's best friend by occupying the heart of Islam, trashing the capital of the last Caliphate, as well as generally taking orders from Ariel Sharon. It is hard to imagine what more Bush could have done to advance Bin Laden's efforts. Bush's war has put us all at even greater risk of attack.

Living in what was once the shadow of the World Trade towers I would like to see Bin Laden and al-Zawahiri reduced to bloddy smudges on a cave wall. I would love to see this country really fight a War on Terror. I consider it a crime that Bush abandoned any real effort to do so in order to launch a needless war of empire.

Well that is nice to hear. I figured you for an absolute pacifist when it came to defeating this Jihadist bs.

I can understand this perspective, but Rick what happens if the transition in Iraq does somehow turn out to be successful? Would that not be a blow to fundamentalism in the region?

I do not think they need excuses to blow up westerners. We did not invade Iraq or Afghanistan when Al Qaeda decided to take 3,000 lives on 9/11. Methinks they are using it to get some sort of Madrid-reaction from the Brits. I do not think they will get that though. What they did get was a stronger reason to be our ally, and a racial backlash in Britain.

And what if pigs learn to fly or frogs learn to sing opera? A brutal invasion and occupation by a foreign power is not likely to bring either stability or democracy. Look how well it worked when the British invaded Iraq in 1918 and again in 1941. Surprise surpise. They got Saddam.

The American invasion has already been a boon to fundamentalism in the region. Don't belive me. That's what Bush's CIA says.
Quote:
Iraq has replaced Afghanistan as the training ground for the next generation of "professionalized" terrorists, according to a report released yesterday by the National Intelligence Council, the CIA director's think tank.

Iraq provides terrorists with "a training ground, a recruitment ground, the opportunity for enhancing technical skills," said David B. Low, the national intelligence officer for transnational threats. "There is even, under the best scenario, over time, the likelihood that some of the jihadists who are not killed there will, in a sense, go home, wherever home is, and will therefore disperse to various other countries."

As I've said before, if Bin Laden is real I think he might actually be a friend of the Bush adminastration.

Hey Rick, two previous brutal invasions and occupations did work:

Germany (Western) and Japan...

Oh and South Korea.

Damn that.. History.

And Afganhistan is moving along better then any of you will admit.

You are right in that an OCCUPATION to OWN a country is not successful, but when the objective is to give the country back to the people and away from the brutal dictaor and his thugs that terrorized the people before hand... well. Those tend to turn out all right.

I guess you have to view the Iraq War as something it's not to justify your claims. Sorry you feel that way.

Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route?

History, Yah Mr, V, you might want to learn some.

In World War II we were attacked by the Axis. (I'll bet even you knew that.) We retaliated. In both Japan and Germany we reinstated existing democratic institutions that had been usurped by dictators. The democracies were home grown. None of this is true in Iraq.

Democracy in South Korea took fully thirty years to become established. It is not something that can be forced at bayonet point.

Right now you have a lot of Iraqis who are fighting against the foreign occupiers. Some are nationalist, some are Baathist, and some are Islamist. The only thing they have in common is a desire to expell the invader. The longer we stay , the worse it will get and the more Americans will die

Twenty eight American soldiers died this week in this pointless war.
