New Jersey may pass anti smoking while driving bill

Trenton, New Jersey - Smoking while driving in New Jersey may soon become illegal, under a measure introduced in the Legislature.

Although the measure faces long odds, it still has smokers incensed and arguing it's a Big Brother intrusion that threatens to take away one of the few places they can enjoy their habit...
I heard it is only proposed to be a secondary enforcable offense, that is a cop can't pull you over just for having a cigarette.

I think this is probably a good idea, smoking does desrease reaction time.

Am I the only one that saw that anti-smoking nazi legislation coming to this logical prediction????

LOL

And people thought I was crazy about them wanting to invade private property with anti-smoking legislation......

How nice of them to make it a secondary offense.....

"Oh, since I already pulled you over for going 3 mph over the speed limit, I am going to walk this dog around your car, and why don't you open your trunk. You don't have any guns, knives or anything that could possibly be constrewed as a weapon do you? Mind turning your pockets out, and showing proof of ID and a license, registration and insurance card? Oh, also, I noticed your smoking, so I am going to increase city revenue a little and write you a ticket for that too, after I write you up for no seat belt violation, since you aren't wearing it as I pulled up......"

But no, we still have rights.......

Since the car is outside when the "offense" occurs, are we to assume all outdoor smoking will be on the chopping block next?

My bet, absolutely.

It sounds like they're only going to make it illegal to smoke...what happens when you finally burst into flames? Is that OK?

If you sk me, that seems to be the intended goal.

Damn it, if smoking causes an accident you're liable for it. Why isn't that enough?

Because legislators now imagine themselves to be prognosticators, so they want to proactively outlaw that which they see causing problems in the future. Since talking to others also distracts the driver, we should soon see legislation permitting only one person per vehicle. Oh, and kids distract, too. Sorry, mom, no more rides for the kiddies. If they can't walk or ride their bikes, they don't need to go. Then we need to outlaw drivers under 30. Those damn kids drive too fast and don't follow the rules of the road.

Every one is unnecessarily critical. You guys should be defending private property. You need to be telling people, "Maybe if you don't like it, you should go and build your own road."

I doubt it will ever go that far. They will have been rid of us undesirables long before it gets to anti-family legislation.

I'm waiting for the day I can't legally scratch an itch in the car. Also the day I won't be allowed to drive my manual.
