Again, this is a superficial phenomenon in cultural terms. It isn't going to change the basic Chinese outlook, formed over thousands of years.
The young generations are spending more time learning English than Chinese, and now having troubles reading or understanding articles written before 1911. We are too busy learning from the west and are losing the ability to think from our own culture (like those in HK or TW).

What do you mean by "articles written before 1911"? Pre-pinyin?

As for the rest, by culture I don't mean the ability to read classic Chinese script -- I mean a culture-driven (i.e. upbringing-driven) outlook: a Chinese view of the world. If that's going to change it will take generations.

China's current prosperity comes from having its market in a global, Anglo-dominated system. Learning English is a way to personal advancement. Ask tiny whether HK has become 'de-Confucianized'. I'd say it certainly hasn't. (Hey, after all, the mainland survived the "cultural revolution" and you're worried about McDonald's?)

I travelled to HK and found people there cannot speak or write chinese without errors. The level they master Chinese is about the same I master english: just enough for casual communication. I can be wrong on this. I don't oppose to learning english, but oppose to replacing chinese with english. I am not worrying about McDonals, but worrying about the view that "everything chinese is obsolete, and everything american is advanced".

Yes, I see what you mean. But they'll get over it once they see that all that glitters is not gold.

I've travelled to (place name of English-speaking country here) and discovered that most people there can't speak or write English without errors.

The sad fact is young Hong Kongers nowadays are not fluent in both Chinese and English.
