Blair vs. Chirac. Two historic rival cities convinced they were long overdue. London prevailed — upsetting Paris to secure the 2012 Olympics. The British capital overcame its cross-Channel opponent 54-50 Wednesday on the fourth ballot of the International Olympic Committee vote, capping the most glamorous and hotly contested bid race in Olympic history. Moscow, New York and Madrid were eliminated in the first three rounds. London got the Olympics for the first time since 1948, while Paris was frustrated for a third time in 20 years. It hasn't held the games since 1924. Hey folks, you know what? Rumor has it that Paris lost the games to London 'cos IOC was very concerned that all the male athletes will be fighting to get into the Paris Hilton. ![]() |

| Sedimentary Rock Location: Staffordshire, UK Posts: 6 | In my eyes, winning the Olympic bid is a bit of a double-edged sword: On the one hand, London will benefit from this and it’ll be a boost for British sport in general. So thats good... But on the other hand leading up to and during the 2012 London Olympics, Britain will be in the spotlight, and I wouldn't be surprised if more attacks on London like todays are carried out, as terrorists looking for media coverage see Britain as the perfect stage to act out their beliefs  (Hopefully I'm wrong though) |

| Glad to be back! Location: Vernal, UT Posts: 1,725 | I'm pretty sure I only hate France because everyone else seems to hate france. But since they do seem to be a paumpous bunch of asses I guess I'm glad. Fixed ideas are like a cramp in the foot - the best remedy against it is to tread on it. -Søren Kierkegaard |

But about the Olympics; I don't think it matters where they're held.. but then again I find sport tedious so would have been happy for France to take it, though even better would have been a random other country getting it, just to spite London and Paris ![]() |
