PETA protests proffering perch

Aquarium 'should give fish a fair shake'

Quote:
An animal rights group has called on one of the largest aquariums in the United States to stop serving fish to its visitors, likening the practice to grilling up "poodle burgers at a dog show".

"It's easy to think of fish as swimming vegetables but of all the places in the country where fish should get a fair shake it's an aquarium," said Karin Robertson, manager of the Fish Empathy Project for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

On Friday, Ms Robertson sent a letter to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, near Los Angeles, asking directors to take fish off the cafeteria lunch menu, adding: "Serving fish at an aquarium is like serving poodle burgers at a dog show."

She said that recent studies show that fish are surprisingly "intelligent, sensitive and interesting animals" and that the aquarium was contradicting that message by cooking them for lunch.

Jerry Schubel, aquarium president, said in a statement that the facility served only sustainable and environmentally friendly fish and was committed to educating the public about conserving ocean environments.

The more PETA carries on, the less people take them seriousy. I encourage them to continue thier absurd behavior in public.

Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route?

I wonder what a zoo cafeteria serves? I mean whatever they serve, they'd be criticized, wouldn't they? Unless of course they serve nothing but veggies.

Why the hell not? PETA is absurd. Animal rights is fine and dandy, PETA goes from fine and dandy intot he realm of insanity and sits there wondering if they have gone far enough. I wish I could catch some PETA Pawns out doing a KFC protest so I could walk up and laugh at them.

Even salads wouldn't be safe from criticism.

Peta is going to do what they can to raise awareness on the killing of animals by the "evil human carnavours savagly killing without mercy." (as they see it) Its really not going to change anyones mind in my opinion. Animals are not humans and don't really have free will, all they can do is live as long as possible and recreate. I say that if were not putting them in danger of extinction and aren't tourturing the animals that we should not lose sleep at night because we have eaten meat from a dead fish or cow. If peta stands by the protection of animals why not plants, they are living things to right? So what they don't have human characteristics like eyes or a mouth, they are as valueable as any other living organism that exists simply to survive and recreate, are they not? Anyone agree or disagree with me in some way?

PETA just takes it a few steps further than the rest of us. We feel a kinship with all humans which prevents us (for the most part) from killing one another and pretty much precludes eating one another. PETA happens to feel that way about the entire animal kingdom. I might also, except it's too inconvenient.

My mother's been listening to Go Vegan Texas recently. I'm afraid I won't be eating much meat when I visit on weekends. She has good humor about it, though. She related how she'd told her therapist how Go Vegan Texas always talks about how every animal someone eats was running for its life. Her therapist responded, "No they weren't! They were cooped up in their little cages."

Shouldn't PETA be lynching tigers and cougars, since they eat other animals?

Isn't that also discrimination? PETA should lynch themselves.

PETA has also long objected to lab experiments on animals. It's hard to identify with a lab rat (even though I used to raise rats as pets and think they're great) but when you see the videos of the ways chimps are treated, it even makes me wince. I understand the need to test drugs, but it's only our belief that humans are somehow "better" than chimps that allows those labs to do what they do. I'm much more in support of testing drugs on human volunteers. How do I know a drug that worked for a chimp is necessarily going to work the same way on me anyway?
