She was not only properly trained and qualified but more importantly, she got the job done... with five bullet holes in her body to show her wide-eyed, adoring grandchildren.

Fort Hood Hero Kimberly Munley's Gunfight With Major Nidal Malik Hasan

Quote:
Medley said Munley, 34, is a former soldier who became a member of the base's civilian police department.

"She has some special qualifications," Medley said. "She's a firearms instructor. She's a member of our SWAT team...a weapons and marksman expert."

You can put "true" in front of anything and argue that it does not exist. Try it.

However I suspect you're using a really flawed and simplistic mental model of the people who usually disagree with you if you think any of us are going to bother with this one except to show that we can.

I think it goes without saying the any suggestion to invade Canada is mind-numbingly stupid.

Not sure how this question can be found so difficult to answer.

By choosing a profession in which she may have been called upon to act upon a motivation to protect others instead of the preservation of self indicates a proclivity to heroism. Many fall short of this goal.

By actually acting to protect others, suppressing preservation of self and calling attention to herself in a time of great danger is a truly heroic act.

Is that so difficult to say?

Ah, but she may also have been motivated by self-preservation and a desire to do a "good job" instead of just heroism.

As I said, you can put "true" in front of anything and argue there's no such thing.

Yes, Apeman81, if there is competing or overlapping motivations such as doing a 'good job,' it may well erase what might otherwise be heroism such as running to the source of gunshots and placing yourself in the line of fire to save others.

Thanatos, that's one right and two wrong.

Have you ever approved of what's going through my head even once? Be serious.

Remember the "true" altruism thread? If by true you also mean pure then, well, such things don't exist. If by true you don't mean completely pure then sure it exists all over the place.

What about someone who is 60% driven by survival and 40% driven by heroism?

I feel sorry for any person who might heroically save your life and get this type of response from you in return.

In fact, knowing this in advance, I'd probably just let you die so you could be 'truly' right... dead but right.

... So we're fighting a holy war now? To hell with Christianity and Islam. When you and the muslims get done killing each other, I'll form the United States of Atheism. God Bless the Godless Land.

It's when entire cities start dancing in the streets when innocents are killed (9/11) that it's time to start paying attention.
There has been fighting between Christians and Muslims for something like a 1000 years. It seems to me both sides are to blame. I think it is past time to end the hatred. That won't happen until Christians and Muslims learn to be tolerant of each other.

If the Islam bashers really believe what they say they should be very worried. There are 10,000 Muslims in the US military, an estimated six million Muslim Americans and over 2 billion worldwide. (They are all coming to get you. Boo.)

Blaming a religion for the actions of one deranged individual doesn't make much sense.

If there were bands of Catholics still muroding across Europe burning and hanging witches and Pagans I'd call them evil. If I find there's bands of Islam jihadists muroding across the Middle East and other places killing indiscriminately then I'll also call them evil.

If a psychotic killer goes to a church and shoots down an abortion doctor in the name of Christ, that individual is evil. When an Islamic psychopath endeavors to kill, that person is evil too.

I don't believe either religion is inherently evil, but twisted that way by the minds of it's leaders. The difference I see today is the Catholics have pretty much put away their pitchforks, torches and become rather benign.

Islam isn't any more evil than Christianity, Buddhism or what ever else. It's their leaders which make it so which we see today in many places. The vast majority of Muslims just want to live their lives peaceably and to be left alone. It's tragic on all sides that other Muslims jihad, but that fact remains as we see here.

Actually, I probably insult more people (of the religious) on this board.
How about an honest answer .....

Which religion would you feel more comfortable insulting, if your name and location were known, Christianity or Islam?

Can you name a Christian leader that has ever issued a fatwa?

Depends. Does a general fatwa involving all non-Catholic Christians count? How about the numerous fatwas that resulted in the crusades?
