Woman who died on hospital floor is honored in death

Woman who died on hospital floor is honored in death - CNN.com
Quote:
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Esmin Green died in a drab hospital gown, facedown on a waiting room floor, apparently ignored by hospital staff for more than an hour.

At her funeral Sunday in a tiny church in Brooklyn, packed with some people she didn't even know, she was dressed in lace gloves and a white chiffon suit.

"I'm so glad you're in my life/I'm so glad you came to save us," four children sang in a hymn at the Jesus is Lord Sanctuary.

The mourners sang along, many still reeling with anger and disbelief at the way their "Sister Green" was apparently treated last month at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn.

Surveillance tape, later broadcast around the world, showed the 49-year-old mother of six sliding off of a chair in the waiting room of the hospital's psychiatric emergency department, eventually lying face-down on the floor, convulsing.

Green had been involuntarily admitted June 18 for what the hospital described as "agitation and psychosis."

Nearly 24 hours after her arrival, the camera recorded hospital workers looking at her body and appearing to ignore her. Finally, a hospital employee nudges her lifeless body with his foot and summons help. But it's too late.

Green died on the floor.
Sad how this happened. She should of had help, but she was forced to wait. And for too long...

here's the video of her: Woman who died on hospital floor is honored in death - CNN.com

This is sick. Absolutley outrageous behavior, for medical staff I hope each one loses their license to practice and they should pay her family for her death. Psychotic or not they let her die, no one deserves that.

Saving the empovershed by empoverishing their counterparts will empoverish the whole.

7 employees who saw her and knew she was there have been fired, if i'm correct.

Why I am not surprised? Many, many people die in hospitals because of staff neglect and incompetence. I found out the hard way just how unsafe hospitals really are. My husband survived aortic dissection surgery, but died 13 days later of cardiac arrest caused by an incompetent nurse. He was in the coronary critical care unit in a very good hospital. His bed was right next to the nurses station. There was no way the staff could have missed the alarms going off. (unless they were turned off) I was told he was "found" with no blood pressure. I was also told three weeks after his death (by an ER nurse who was there when he coded) it took an hour to locate the doctor. The hospital "lost" all but 16 pages (out of 364) of his medical records. When I mentioned "lawyer", the records were suddenly found... that day. The blood analysis (drawn shortly before his death) documentation had been blacked out.

That you may retain your self-respect, it is better to displease the people by doing what you know is right, than to temporarily please them by doing what you know is wrong.

Halofan the 7 workers may have lost their jobs but thta doesn't mean they have lost their medical licenses. If they don't revoke their licenses they could allow other people to die in another hospital.

Well, at least 2 didn't have a medical license in all likelihood (security guards).

In a world where altruism is sneered at ala Ayn Rand (is 'Atlas Shrugged' STILL second to the Bible?), what would you expect?

Saddened, yes, but definitely not surprised.

The woman was a kook (a hypochondriac, most likely). Most of them probably knew her (and her fantasy illnesses) and didn't really think much about her 'show'.

Still, a hospital is not the place to practice apathy, indifference, and presumption.

Was it lunch time?
