I don't think it would be that dramatic, and most people wouldn't stomach looking at the instant the blade hit anyway, they would probably close their eyes or look away.
Also, a lot of people went for the entertainment value, even took their kids along to watch.
Then there were the rapists and murderers getting topped, and that would have been satisfying for a lot of people to see instant justice before their eyes, especially the victims family's.
I find it strange that they stopped using this.

It should be bought back, if your going to have a death penalty, its the weapon of choice.
