Yet, if the word is something like "frack" i think they'll figure it out pretty quickly. Knowledge is power, and with it comes responsibility, use it well. |

![]() Seeking the Unknown Location: Southern California Posts: 911 | Problem is 1. enforcing this law will be extremely difficult and 2. The new words wouldn't be the banned words, so therefore are ok. You'd have to ban practically every word in the english language before they give up. Knowledge is power, and with it comes responsibility, use it well. |

People dumb enough to think that banning profanities is accomplishing anything worthwhile probably sound as foolish as they think. Banning all the words in their limited vocabulary might just turn out to be a blessing for the rest of us. | dog lover Location: over the rainbow Posts: 1,007 | My comment meant that cursing is secular the biggest part of the time. I was trying to point out that it would be around even if there were no religion. I'd say cursing came about before the bible because that's why it was mentioned there. | Igneous Magma Posts: 272 | Think of all the "mainstream" curse words I know, only a very small percentage are religious in nature (ie taking the lord's name in vain or referring to a negative afterlife experience.. lol). The rest are sexual or scatalogical. I guess in *theory* those could be considered "religious" if you twisted the definition a good bit.......... |

![]() Igneous Magma Posts: 278 | Curse words are just an English Launguidge concept, in most languidges there arent cuss words. So what if everybody gets relaxed about cuss words and doesn't take offense to them anymore? Uptite people at this point picture armoggedon or something but some of us have figured out that if you quit fearing something it looses it's power. Launguidge is always evolving. The cuss words will fade and be replaced by others which will spring from peoples own imaginations and so on. People love to waste life being affraid of meaningless powerless objects or words. |

I am sick of all your off topic religous preaching in threads. If you are so sure of your religion, you wouldn't take every opportunity to push it onto the rest of us. The fact you have your faith and your religion should be enough. Is it dissatisfying you so much that you have to go on the internet and play superiority games to fill the void? The fact that you constantly need to prove your faith to us does not make you a good christian. It makes you seem like an attention whore. If you really want to prove that your religion is worth while, you will stop confirming the fact that it is blind ignorance, and you will start backing up your posts with why god wants us to do what he says. Its very easy, let me show you how: Cussing is a sin. God made it a sin because it increases aggression, and it is insulting and derogatory. My response to a comment like that "well, the bible has rules for a reason I suppose". On the other hand, when you make comments like: Quote:
"Thats just stupid. The bible just makes up rules for the sake of being controlling. What prudes." All you are doing is increasing division between athiests and christians, and lowering our opinion of your religion. Now, on topic. Swear words are deliberatly rebellious. Does anyone else see the pointlessness in banning them? your just making them more rebellious. The swearers will thank you. On top of that, it is impossible to police, and like halofan said, more will just be made up to replace them. If we want to destroy a word, do as the gays do. Demean the word. Queer was a word used to insult the gay community. But once they started using it with pride to describe themselves with pride, the word lost all its sting, and it became meaningless. A gay friend I once had use to always refer to himself as a fag. What point is there in calling him a fag to be mean, if easily admits he is one? People swear for a reaction. If you don't give them one, then the word is useless. "A geek is a person, male or female, with an abiding, obsessive, self-effacing, even self-destroying love for something besides status." --D.B. Ok other languidges have curse words like spanish, but not hebrew, some do some don't I just think it's a taboo concept and if everybody gets over the taboo they wont even be curse words anymore. | |
