Is it just me or in that CNN clip does RP say he can't be racist because he doesn't believe in collective social labels like blacks?

Then 15 seconds later he says he's defending the rights or blacks more than any republican candidate?

hypocrite much does he?

yeah that's right. We all know this is the right theory.

By acting according to this theory, white people helped end slavery.

...I mean there's still consignment but...If you can't stay alive without selling your soul in the modern world...how are we going to stop that? Credit cards and such. Housing loan scandals

Is Ron Paul not cool enough for you Helio?

Now that you mention it I haven't seen him wearing any major brand whore items.

I'm so not voting in the primary for any unfashionable candidate.

What about it?

He says he doesn't believe in labeling people by a social group then goes on to say he's the champion of the blacks.

Added to that he was a member of a confederate loving organization. Doesn't look good and he should stop trying to play off this association with that group. I'm sorry but if you join a Hitler fan club then chances are most people are going to hate you despite your "intentions"

and I said that by doing away with collective labels, discrimination is virtually impossible. So he IS helping black people and other minorities.

LOLOL!!!! Did you really mean to write that, Clarence? Virtually impossible??

Based on Ron Paul's newsletters, he, or his ghostwriter, do a perfectly capable job of discriminating, even without collective labels.

Discrimination isn't about labels, it's about physical differences that no lack of labels can hide.

I think he nailed it in his response, that libertarian principals don't really lend themselves to racist ideas. It's kind of hard to be a racist when you're in a constant struggle to defend the rights of all individuals, without distinction.
Ron Paul's excuse would make Karl Rove green with envy. Paul's libertarian ideals, he tells us, are antithetical to racism, therfore he didn't write the newsletters in his own publication, printed under his very nose. But he won't say who did write those pieces of filth. Why? Is the person still working for Paul? Does the "ghostwriter" even exist?

That's right, blame the unnamed subordinates; the good doctor would never fib. He just lost track of his vast bureaucracy of Paul employees and multiple numbers of racist and homophobic rants just snuck by undetected.

With that kind of attention to detail and executive talent who needs George W. Bush?

Onward to South Carolina rushes the Ron Paul Express singing "We Shall Overcome!" He's sure to capture the "colored" vote now.

Unfortunately, your information is simply that propaganda that is misleading, inaccurate, and definitely with a political agenda. I am ashamed that I read your entire post. Moreover, you contradict yourself. Van Meses was a jew- so how can Dr. Paul be an anti-Semite. Do ytou research thoroughly without a political agenda and you will see that your are way off. Thank you very much but no thank you. Note: I am Hispanic and I despise smears.

THANK YOU, Mr Kirchick. Nice to see TNR back in the muckraking business-- Ryan Lizza's shoes are being filled. Appreciate especially your diligence in actually getting away from the modem and schlepping out to Lawrence KS to comb through old newsletters and do what we expect journalists to do.

lets see the newsletters. If things are as they are described in this article

Quote:
Corrections: This article originally stated that The Nation praised Ron Paul's "full-throated rejection of the imperial project in Iraq." The magazine did not praise Paul's position, but merely described it. The piece also originally misidentified ABC's Jake Tapper as Jack. In addition, Paul was a surgeon in the Air Force, not the Army, as the piece originally stated. It also stated that David Duke competed in the 1990 Louisiana Republican Senate primary. In fact, he was a Republican candidate in an open primary. The article has been corrected.

it seems the article was rushed out and not well written.

We need to read the newsletters. The info we need is right there.

I'm always the quickest to admit when i'm wrong. I never could lie to myself for more than a few minutes

Let me help. Selections From Ron Paul's Newsletters

The links on this page all go to actual copies of the Newsletters. Do I need to paste each link, or can you manage from here?

They say that when presented with damning testimony from a witness, the defense attorney's first tactic is to attack and discredit the witnss.

As such attacks go, this is pretty tame. Among the most reliable, accurate news sources in America is NPR, and everyday they list more aggregious corrections than these. The guy's name was Jack, not Jake??? Whooaa... excUUUuuuse us!! Paul was in the Air Force, not the Army? Duke was in an open primary, not a Republican one? And all of which was corrected.

Thous dost protest too much... and about too little.

None of this disputes the content of the article.

Ok, so someone doesn't like the article. Indeed, The National Review is a leftist rag. So prove the content wrong.

His parents were Jewish. At one point Von Mises served as an advisor to the Austrian fascist regime in the 30's, so I suspect he didn't wear his Judaism on his sleeve and if Paul was a fan of his economics, he could probably overlook what he didn't want to know. After all, Jerry Falwell's right hand man for years was closet gay who, because he so believed the rest of Falwell's message, put up with apparently a great deal.

And none of this answers the basic questions... if Paul didn't write them, who did, how did Paul not know, and why hasn't he denounced them before now???

Good questions. What is The New Republic? sounds pretty serious. Don't believe I've ever heard of them. Has he bothered to answer these questions yet?

I read all the way down past the martin luther king on the most recently dated piece. If Ron Paul wrote this, I might be convinced he's a racist.

The New Republic is perhaps a tad more than the "leftist rag" I described... it's the leading liberal periodical of political and cultural opinion in the U.S.. Michael Kinsley was the editor before he went of to start Slate.com.

Equivilent magazines would be William F. Buckley Jr's conservative National Review and William Kristol's neo-conservative The Weekly Standard. Each is considered the flagship publication for their particular points of view and attract the best writers and opinion makers. For instance, this particular issue of TNR also features an article by Tucker Carlson, a flamboyant conservative gadfly.

So you can take their veracity however you see fit, but TNR is definitely not Michael Moore.

Ron Paul supporters have two responsibilities. To visit these newsletters at Kansas and visit his district. I'm about 4 months from making this trip myself.

I guess it's looking like I have no candidate. I like Milton's point that even as a potential racist dr. no-pants he's still our best choice. Sadly he's right. But I'd never endorse such a thing/

I'm out. I no longer know what to think.

I am still fishy on the newsletters, he doesn't seem anything like what was stated in the newsletters. It was probably something that he lend his name to in order to get monetary campaign contributions and then it bit him in the arse!

And Kurt Waldheim didn't strike anyone as a former Nazi, either. Yet there he was...

how come Ghook starts supporting Ron Paul soon as it looks like he's a racist?

I'm telling you, we should invite him (Ron Paul) to answer a few questions too.
