Actually, I was talking about information gathering techniques, but I suppose there is some of that to factor in as well.

I'm sure there are legitimate reasons for desiring secrecy, but Bush, and his administratin have given the whole world a reason to evaluate their friendship with us.

How about, since you agree that these people were captured "durring a war", we simply treat them as POW's, and abide by the Geneva Conventions?
But the Geneva Conventions apply to regular military soldiers. Something al qeada is not.

Actually, I'd suggest not starting pre-emptive wars of aggression.
Neither Iraq nor Afghanistan were "pre-emptive wars of aggression".

Afghanistan gets a pass, but not Iraq. Iraq is Bush, and the Neocons war, and it is a war of aggression.

Saddam did not uphold his end of the gulf war cease fire agreement, by verifably disarming and destroying his WMD's.

He also had no WMD's, was not a threat, and had no hand in the other myriad of allegations that the invaders accused him of doing.

But I understand that you have to keep telling yourself that.

It is (rather) a "payment" , for French and German set up - political and economic enterprise - against U.S. Dollar and U.S. economy, in order to promote Euro (by both states), instead.

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., said the CIA claims it told the committee of the tapes' destruction at a hearing in November 2006. Rockefeller said, however, that the hearing transcript found no mention of that subject.
J. Rockefeller is a hallucinating deviant, (and with his obsessive and chronical stubbornity of an asshole) that attempts to add all the material into the same package - and 1 only, relentlessly, as long as it fits a particular concept of his own desire.
Jay Rockefeller knows very well that video-tapes Hayden mentions, concern prisoners that have been held off U.S. borders, what Excludes Guantanamo.
Therefore, U.S. intelligence agencies have had unlimited rights and privileges to manage those vidoe-tapes accordingly.
What Jay Rockefeller wants, that goes beyond those video-tapes scope. He wants U.S. governing body to release the data on sources that serve and/or support and/or help U.S. intelligence agencies, off U.S. borders.
No chance that data is going to be released, since it carries extremely sensitive and vital information for U.S. intelligence agencies.
That (read: data for U.S. off borders sources) is the key reason U.S. governing body does not want any open investigation into that case.
That is what Jay Rockefeller can not overcome and/or comprehend, despite of his seat within U.S. Senate "Intelligence Commitee" - as the Chairman. Jay Rockefeller can not understand that being a chairman is not enough.

Was that an attempt at "justification" for Iraq?

Ammount of U.S. Dollar in your pocket, along with its power.

Could you possibly be a little less cryptic?

I always feel like I need to go buy a box of kids cereal for the decoder ring if I'm going to truly understand you.

How exactly does one verify that he's gotten rid of something he doesn't have??

France and Germany made a deal with S. Hussain.
All the transactions paid in Euro.

So that was an attempt at justification for the Iraq war. OK, just wanted to be clear.

At various times, he did possess WMD's and then failed to account for them and their destruction.

It's sad that the USA has lowered it's self to torturing people.

Is it "sad" that the aggressive interrogation tactics we used, on such high value targets as KSM, have saved considerable US lives? It would be spectacular if these people would provide information of their own accord....but that just isn't the case.
