| Principled Observer Location: Toledo, Ohio Posts: 13,873 | I don't know Prax, I only know more gun laws would only hurt more legal citizens, and force more citizens to become illegal in their rightful quest for the ability to attain a competent defense. Punishing law abiding people with more restrictions is not an answer for dealing with irresponsible people. There are none..... therefore the only logical conclusion is to improve apon the system most agree with and try and make it work through time. If it screws up one thing, fix it.... if it is proven to be a total failure.... drop it. But it hasn't been proven to be a total failure..... and a few cases here and there of violent crimes involving firearms isn't proof that it is a failure. If it is... then what does that tell you of the US's current system where gun violence is completely rampant and out of control? If gun control is a failure... then whatever system that is in place in the US is a catastrophe. Something is better then nothing. | |

Also, just because someone is prescribed mood altering drugs does not mean they are necessarily taking them. Unless of course you have evidence that the specific drugs he was taking have been shown to more often than not cause mental illness rather than treat it. In which case that is a different issue altogether. What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

![]() Mass'Debator Posts: 4,724 | Most kids who are going through school as outcasts are always depressed and gloom and doom.... I know I was as explained previously. But I was lucky enough not to get pumped with pills until last year (No longer on them) Putting pills into a kid who's going through this kind of crap in school, isn't going to solve their problems.... they're gonna see this.... realize they are still an outcast, they are still made fun of, and now they're being given pills because something is wrong with them, while everybody else is just fine it would seem...... no wonder why they blow up. People are too damn dependant on drugs to solve their problems of everyday life, rather then actually taking time to sit like a human and talk these things through with someone who actually gives a damn. Instead of seeing humanity, you see medication and further isolation in this mental state... if you see no humanity other then yourself, and nobody relates to you.... it is easy to loose compasion for your fellow human. If you're in school, having a life like this, and getting to your limit, it is very difficult to see that things can get better once you're out of school. But during this time, you see this as nothing but your life, and this is all that is in store for you for the rest of your life..... so if you're depressed, and the pills arn't doing their thing, and life isn't getting any better.... why keep going? Then it also crosses the mind... "Why should I just kill myself so these people can live a better life without me around?" ~ And you feel before you take your life, other's should feel some pain and suffering as you are in your head. It's a very dangerous and volitile state of mind.... and from my own experience all that is needed is someone to listen to you and help you through the problems..... to give you a better outlook on life and how to get out of what you're going through now. People need a helping hand, not pills to mask. |

![]() Natures 'D' Student Posts: 1,214 | My best friend damn near went bat sh*t when he was 17, after being prescribed Prozac. He went from depressed to violent and soon dropped out. Even punching his mother over a disagreement about what to have for dinner. The answer from his doctor; MORE PROZAC! He and his mother agreed that this was not the solution. He discontinued the drugs and got on a counseling program, went to night school and got his diploma and all was fine. |

About the Prozac..... I wasn't on that, I was on Celexa I think it was called. But our medical proceedures are that if they assign one anti-depressant and things don't work, or you become much worse as the above situation sounded.... then they are supposed to take you off them immediatly and try another brand. My father went through several ones before they found the one that works for him. When they decided to put me on them during a pretty crappy year where everything kinda fell on top of ya.... they put me on the same stuff as my dad, due to the same genetics, therefore it was a good start. but the doctor Px'ing more rather then to change to another brand is blaitent disregard for the patient's well being. If it's getting better but not good enough, then you up it... but if the symptoms get worse after taking them.... the obvious thing to do it to either switch or discontinue. That was the right decision I must say.
