Bush and Congress dispute Armenian 'genocide' status

http://news.independent.co.uk/world/...cle3047633.ece

The way I understand it, the Armenian killings, by definition, WAS genocide. Now, Turkey is pissed off because Congress is now recognizing it as such, and is threatening to stop aiding the US in the Iraq war. What are your thoughts? Should America recognize the killings as genocide? Or mass murder?

Wasn't this question raised in another thread?

I don't see why it matters. All that matters is right now. We should not make some symbolic gesture that actually means nothing. Especially, when it will piss off our allies.

While I see very little point in setting the standard now, it should also be stated that the US shouldn't make a decision on something like genocide just because it's not convenient at this particular time.

It should have been decided a long time ago, but kudos to them for at least seeing it as that now.

As far as "pissing off" our allies? Well perhaps the Turks should have decided to come to agreement about this a long time ago. The majority of the world believes it happened and while I can't say for sure it happened because I was never there, heck I wasn't even alive. I do believe it did, just like the Holocaust. Both have been been sufficiently documented I believe to prove it beyond a doubt.
