Dems can't make guarantee on Iraq troops

Dems can't make guarantee on Iraq troops - Yahoo! News

Quote:
HANOVER, N.H. - The three leading Democratic presidential hopefuls conceded Wednesday night they could not guarantee that all U.S. combat troops would be gone from Iraq by 2013, the end of the next president's first term in office.

"I think it's hard to project four years from now," said Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois in the opening moments of a campaign debate in the nation's first primary state.
What do you think of this? I think it's time to say 'Hell no!" to the two-party system.

Exact title, please. Read the format put in place when you post in here.

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

Hell no, vote Democrat, or Repubulican, and show them we want more of the same.

While we're at it, let's think of a few more things we can "Fast Track" through Congressional oversight, and help the Executive power grab even further.

Screw it, let's just appoint a Fuhrer, so we can forget politics altogether, and think about other things like where our next meal will come from, or how we can heat our prisons in the winter without burning all the furniture.

Life is too hard if you have to keep thinking about stuff.

funny, since just a few weeks ago they were talking about how they'd pull us out of there.. just goes to show that even when they're just talking - how cheap that talk really is.

yet despite this, millions of pleebs will still vote for politicians based solely on hollow rhetoric.

seems that the "mainstream" view is to "stay the course", and if you favor withdrawal then you're typecast as some loony radical.

And the recent tone doesn't even presume to give the war much rationale, other than the vague one that it's the only hope Iraq has to improve, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Most lobbyists just give money to your political opponents if they don't like you. Arms dealers cause your untimely and tragic demise. The same dynamics that kept us in Vietnam for so long will also hold us in Iraq...

i think people are pretty convinced that iraq will completely unravel if we were to leave - which is why they don't give any other rationale for staying than that. meanwhile, we'll continue to have our permanent bases and set up the stage for a war with iran.

when your national policy is guided by fear, rather than rational logic, this is what we get.

in this respect, i think the republicans may actually be more honorable - because they're at least honest when they say they want to keep our troops there indefinitely/forever... the fork-tongued democrats on the other hand......

The democrats know we are winning in Iraq and they're afraid they'll look like sh***heads for trying to pull the troops out.

Yeah, people seem to assume that, which may be true. But it's also very obvious we're helping Iraq "unravel," and have been for some time. But those aspects of history are spun out of the picture, basically.

There are some other rationales--standard ones for justifying war:

It'd be cowardly to leave, or it's "un-American." The election rationale hasn't worked out very well, seeing as to how elections don't necessarily improve things.

So the new rationale may be to stay there to better take Iran out (an inherently justified thing to do, according to militarists).

The real reason is the Democrats (like the Repoublicans) don't care about the troops or about Iraqis.

Here's the Democrats bold new plan for Iraq:
The Associated Press: Democrats Propose Tax Surcharge for War
Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats on Tuesday proposed an income tax surcharge to finance the approximately $150 billion annual cost of operations in Iraq, saying it is unfair to pass the cost of the war onto future generations.

The plan, unveiled by Reps. David Obey, D-Wis., John Murtha, D-Pa., and Jim McGovern, D-Mass., would require low- and middle-income taxpayers to add 2 percent to their tax bill.

and "leading" democrats don't support it - because they want this war to continue (no different than the republicans).

Crucially, both parties started the war to get nonexistent weapons.
