Croatia | Lawsuit charges that Nazi gold funded Vatican ratlines

His claims concern the funding of the “ratlines” [6], the network of escape routes for Nazis and other fascists fleeing Europe at the end of World War II. His suit claims that the Vatican Bank and the Franciscans helped members of a brutal, pro-Nazi regime in Croatia hide and launder millions of dollars worth of loot, including gold and jewellery taken from concentration camp prisoners and the proceeds of slave labour.

These Holocaust survivors charge that all or a portion of the treasury of Croatia’s government, the Ustasha, "was transferred to cooperative Roman Catholic clergymen and Franciscans for transport to Rome" where the funds eventually "found their way into the hands of the Vatican Bank, among other recipients." I thought this was a rather interesting article because I wonder how The Church will handle this as well as all the Christians in the world.

I'm sure the Vatican will studiously ignore and stonewall as long as it can. Maybe that will work.

And if the lawsuit is successful, so what? The mainline media are too reverential to make a big deal of it. They'll join the Vatican in ignoring the matter and it will be buried, as usual.

Remember how members of Martin Luther King's family did something similar? (BBC News | AMERICAS | Jury backs King conspiracy theory) That's a major historical revelation, yet hardly anyone has discarded the lone-gunman theory, because people just didn't notice, because the media were virtually silent.

There are -- to borrow Al Gore's phrase -- some inconvenient truths out there. The corporate media basically pretends they don't exist.
