BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The Iraqi government will file criminal charges against employees of U.S. security firm Blackwater who are blamed for a gun battle in Baghdad in which civilians were killed, an Iraqi Interior Ministry official said Sunday. It is unclear how Iraqi courts will attempt to bring the contractors to trial. A July report from the Congressional Research Service said the Iraqi government has no authority over private security firms contracted by the U.S. government.

I doubt anything will stick despite their best efforts.

The U.S. won't allow Iraq any jurisdiction to charge blackwater employees with anything. And yet bush will continue to saber rattle against Iran because Iran isn't respecting Iraq's "sovereign government".

"Sovereignty" sounds good in PR soundbites for an uncritical public, but for the rest of us it's a joke word.

But even if the Blackwater employees weren't getting a free pass, little would change anyway. Bush is a symptom of the disease, and his little political games are merely a sidshow to the actual death and devastation our system seems to require.

That's not to say we should leave his policies go unnoticed, of course.
