REDHEADS are becoming rarer and could be extinct in 100 years, according to genetic scientists. The current National Geographic magazine reports that less than two per cent of the world's population has natural red hair, created by a mutation in northern Europe thousands of years ago. Global intermingling, which broadens the availability of possible partners, has reduced the chances of redheads meeting and producing little redheads of their own. It takes only one red-haired parent to produce ginger-headed babies, but two redheads obviously create a much stronger possibility. If the gingers really want to save themselves they should move to Scotland. An estimated 40 per cent of Scots carry the red gene and 13 per cent actually have red hair. Some experts say that redheads could be gone as early as 2060, but others say the gene can be dormant for generations before returning. National Geographic says the gene at first had the beneficial effect of increasing the body's ability to make vitamin D from sunlight. However, today's carriers are more prone to skin cancer and have a higher sensitivity to heat and cold-related pain.

Once again, another flawed statistic that people will just suck up and think will actually come true.

Now before I actually go into detail on how correct and incorrect this is, how many Red Heads do you think actually contributed to this study? How did they get their sources? How did they come to their conclusion? Simple answer.... there is no answer, because they did not provide one.... except that it was from National Geographic.... so it must be true.

Less then 2% they say? Funny.... last I heard it was less then 1%. But perhaps my stat is out dated from this new one of 2%. But if my outdated stat of 1% is incorrect and the 2% is now the norm stat, wouldn't that suggest they are growing in population? But besides % of population, that has no relation whatsoever on survival.... heck even the article above said:

But immediatly after that comment they say:

So if you only need one, then how does this support the notion that they will be "Breeded Out" or Killed off in 100 years? Doesn't this logically mean there are more people to meet and mate with, therefore actually increasing the chances of more red heads spreading into other cultures? (Spread like a disease in a manner of speaking?)

Because it's crap.... in 100 years, the fool who came up with this will be dead and everyone will have forgotten about this flawed assumption. It hasn't happened yet in the last many centuries... it's not going to happen this century.

I've grown up in a society where I've always been different, where everybody else uses their right hands for most things, where my hair was my judgement of who I was as a child, where my opinions and methods of thinking out of the norm have always been rediculed, where people make fun of your freckles and all the other sterio-typical crap out there in the world, and I can tollerate a lot of crap, but I've put up with enough, esspecially in here.

It is acturally an interesting study.

I think that red hair is not the only thing that can vanish as cultures and races mingle and mate.

Original races can vanish. For example it is hard to find a pure blood Native American anymore because of intermarrages into that race by spanish, white, and black races.

One race mates with a different race and they in effect produce together a new race. A kind of genetic engineering process.

Perhaps over the next million years all this will result in just one race made up of the many aspects of all the orginal races we now know about. Some dna codes of individualism weeded out of the process. While other codes would be common for everyone.

I've always believed that the human race is always wanting to strive for perfection, but we've been split up in different races, as they say.

Throughout time, eventually, we'll be one combined human species.

They say the more our DNA is split and merged between other DNA, it helps make us more resistant to defects, disiease, etc... which if we didn't, one plaque or flu that addapted to the same DNA pattern could kill off that entire strand of DNA... which could be the entire Race if we didn't.

Redheads/Cheltic, Africian, Asian, Spanish, Native, Indian, will all eventually, perhaps thousands of years from now, will merge together. Causing better evolution, symetry, intelligence, health, and all that other jargon.
