CTV.ca | Black found guilty of obstruction of justice

The jury at the fraud trial for Conrad Black has found the former media baron guilty on four of 13 counts in his fraud and racketeering trial, including the serious charge of obstruction of justice.

Black was cleared of the charge of racketeering, but legal expert Paula Todd called the obstruction charge "extraordinary."

"This is very bad news for Conrad Black, for Eddie Greenspan and for his lawyer Ed Genson. This carries a maximum penalty in the United States of 20 years in prison, US$250,000. He won't obviously see 20 years but he is probably looking at prison time," said Todd.

After 10 days of deliberations, the former press baron stood stonefaced as the jury read its verdict to the court, ending a trial that began in mid-March.

It was not immediately known whether former newspaper baron will appeal the verdict.

I agree, Prax. But a filthy-rich and influential scumbag.

Remember what he said about Linda McQuaig, that she should be publicly horsewhipped? There's an idea. Not that I favour corporal punishment, mind you. But Black tests the fervour of my conviction.:)

Yeah, but I'd like to see him get thrown into a regular jail cell with some guy like this:

You know.... to give him a reality check of what we all have to go through when we break the law.... open his eyes a bit.... in a manner of speaking
