9/11 attacks 'an incident'

9/11 attacks 'an incident': World: News: News24
Quote:
Paris - French far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen has dismissed the September 11, 2001 attacks as an "incident", saying the death toll of 3 000 was equal to the number of people killed in Iraq in a month.

Le Pen made the comment in an interview published on Wednesday with the Catholic newspaper La Croix during which he praised Islamic leaders for condemning the attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon.

"The September 11 event, or one could say incident, prompted a certain number of people to distance themselves (from Islamic extremism) to avoid falling under the barrage of accusations that was then unleashed," said Le Pen.

Commenting on the death toll from the attacks, Le Pen said: "3 000 dead, that is how many die in Iraq in a month and it's far less than the deaths in the Marseille or Dresden bombings at the end of the Second World War."
and any respect I had for le penn dissappears...good luck sarko!

Why would anyone have respect for Le Pen in the first place? He is a neo-fascist on his good days. And he hasn't had many good days.

I wonder what the Nazi occupation of France was? An unfortunate misunderstanding?

...and a holocaust denier (or at least downplayer) and a raving bigot. He has also been convicted of assault against a fellow politican and is alleged to have been a torturer during the Algerian war. Other than that....

This Le Pen character is a piece of work! If his political career doesn't work out, I'm sure there's a place for him here in talk radio.

Whether or not you like the guy or hate him, he's got a point. More Iraqi's are dying per month then what happened on Sept 11th..... and that is including civilians.

If you wanted to make an example out of a country, it should have been done to Afghanistan. Iraq had no involvement in 9/11, yet they're taking all the brunt of the 9/11 aftermath, all the while 95% of all your media seems to have forgotten what's going on in Afghanistan

Sadly, in the invasion alone, US planes killed at least five times more Iraqis than Bin Laden's hijacked planes killed people in America. And Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11. And the US did not commit troops to capture Bin Laden at Tora Bora but subcontracted out to Afghan warlords who were bought off.

I never thought a guy named Weiner could make it big in talk radio.

At least Rush is amusing. Savage is just nasty. If he is a joke, I've missed it.

His son's middle name is Goldencloud. Wikipedia says he's the founder and CEO of the company that makes Rockstar energy drink.

Savage is amusing to me. I used to have a boss like him. Rush ... not so much.

Well, I agree with him. The only reason why 9/11 has stood out that much, is because it has such strong symbolic connotations by removing an old landmark, and also, it happened on American soil, scaring the daylights out of Western citizens around the world - achieving it's REAL purpose, which is to spread terror.

Otherwise, the death toll isn't that remarkable, when you look at other places in the world where people die on a daily basis in numbers that end up dwarving the death toll of 9/11.

Hey, this guy named Hamburger thinks anyone should be able to do anything, regardless of their surname.

I resemble that remark.

Makes me proud to be a frenchmen! His arrogance inspires me to new hieghts.

Technically though, He's right, it was an incedent and many more people were killed in the "incidents" he mentioned.
