Hunt for Florida tornado victims

BBC NEWS | Americas | Hunt for Florida tornado victims

Residents spoke of "almost continuous lightning", likening the storm to a freight train that hit their homes.
But remember -- there is no absolute open-and-shut proof that global warming is caused by burning fossil fuels.

So, everybody, it's Business As Usual and let's keep drivin' them Hummers.

Come on, Nono. Blaming any single storm on global warming is just silly. Tornadoes and hurricanes are nothing new in Florida, even if it is fashionable to blame everything now on global warming. I grew up in Florida and remember lots and lots of severe weather.

Going back even further, I guess you could blame the failed Spanish expedition of 1559 where most of the 74 ships sent to recapture Florida were wrecked by a hurricane on global warming if you wanted to as well. If you look at the history, the period between 1900 and 1950 had extremely destructive weather patterns. None of which really says anything about global warming.

No you c'mon, Rick. Severe weather in summer or even autumn, OK. But a tornado on that scale in February? Care to cite the precedents?

And the Spanish expedition, what season did you say that occurred? You didn't, of course. It was in the summertime.
FLORIDA - Online Information article about FLORIDA

So, back to the ol' drawing board, eh?

Give it up Nono.

That section of Florida is called "tornado alley" for a reason. You want a precedent? How about the tornado outbreakof February 22-23, 1998? Struck in exactly the same area of the state. 40 people were killed or twice as many as died this time around.

The Central Florida Tornado Outbreak of February 22nd & 23rd, 1998

And yes, hurricanes form in the late summer. Duh. Not much of a news flash there. Tornadoes strike year round. You do know the difference between a hurricane and a tornado don't you?

Florida Tornadoes
Quote:
Historically the stronger and more dangerous tornadoes occur in February, March, and April. The four deadliest springtime tornado outbreaks in Florida history have occurred in this time frame.
I could agree with saying that the recent storm was possibly related to the current El Nino conditions. The deadly tornadoes of 1998 also occurred during an El Nino year. That being said, the El Nino conditions might have been entirely coincidental.

Blaming this specific storm on global warming is just silly.

Blaming any specificstorm on global warming is problematical. Katrina, for instance, just happened to be in the wrong place, if you recall. Nothing more, correct? But to divorce the two would be really silly.

The fact is that extreme weather events (i.e. manifestations that there's more energy in the system) are on the rise, especially in the northern hemisphere.

It is definitely being linked to El Niño. I get (count 'em) 750,000 hits for "el nino"+"global warming". An example:
The Weather Factory - El Nino and Global Warming

I'd leave the Hummer in the garage.

The fact is that severe weather is not untypical nor unpredicented in Central Florida. Severe tornados in February are not unusual nor was this particular tornado more severe than past tornadoes.

Overall, global warming may be contributing to more severe weather, but that is not the same as saying that a particular series of tornadoes has anything whatsoever to do with global warming.

Nono, might want to take the token. Rick already handed your asshole to you on a plate. You lose, give up.

Global Warming is real, but this isn't proof of so. There's nothing unusual about this particular storm.

But hey, I guess unproductive whining about global warming is the trendy thing to do, right? Same thing as implying all Americans drive Hummers, perhaps I should play the game and snidely ask you so stop wasting all that tea and crumpets, and metal for your fucking Swiss-Army knives you frilly-pantsed fag.

The only thing unproductive here are your insults. Go somewhere else and hurl them around because they aren't wanted, and those that do it, aren't respected here either, Goober.

Nono; I am not so sure that blaming Joe Six Pack and his hummer, is the best source of your critical eye. Perhaps it is more exploratory to look at the larger violaters that emit greenhouse gases. We could eliminate all of the Hummers in the world and it wouldn't make a dent as to the sulphur that is emited by the industrialized, and emerging industrialized, nations such as the US, India, and China.

Your aim at the Hummer is like critizing someone for 2nd hand smoke while standing in a burning building. 2nd hand smoke indeed is perhaps dangerous to others who don't smoke, but the toxic fumes from the burning building will kill you quicker. It reminds me of the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid where Butch and the Kid are standing on the cliff contemplating jumping to the water below to escape the posse. The Kid turns to Butch and complains he can't swim and Butch merely laughs at him and says: " So what???? The fall will probably kill ya, kid."

No I didn't miss anything. Your post was anything but satircal to Nono.

So you continue to insult people around here, eh? Oh, I guess that is satire  The only person that doesn't seem to be "too sharp" around here is you, because you didn't "get" my first post about insults.

You're still missing it, here, I'll make it easy:

If that's not easy enough for you, then I guess there isn't much else for me to say.

Quite interesting you bring this up, because if I'm not mistaken:

Yep, there it is, an insult. Perhaps you should look to your own post before you lecture the quality of others'. Unless you legitimately meant I was the delicious peanut butter/jelly sandwich spread.

Well, if you think you are funny, then you should perhaps not give up your day job. As far as Goober, it wasn't meant as an insult, I just thought the name fit the situation. Oh well, talk about not getting it.

I had a good laugh at that. It's interesting how you just avoided the actual topic of my post to take another jab at me. It almost seems as if you've faltered. I didn't ask too many difficult questions did I?

Just pointing out that you're a hypocrite, that's all. Telling me not to throw around insults while at the same time insulting me just ends up making you look stupid. As does the repetitive use of the " " smiley.

I don't remember what I wrote, I can't respond to your post. As for those faces, I haven't used them in months, and don't use them anymore. At the time I was using them I was new to this forum, as a matter of fact this is the first forum I've ever participated in.
