A helicopter has gone down north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad killing two US troops, the US military has confirmed. The US did not say what caused the crash but witnesses said the helicopter was shot down, near a US air base at Taji, shortly after dawn.

This is the 4th helicopter to go down in the last two weeks. As I mentioned in a seperate post, this could be real trouble for U.S. forces. The helicopter is absolutely essential to our ground operations in Iraq. If the insurgents have new or more effective ways to target them, we are facing disaster. After we gave the Afghans stinger missiles during the Russian invasion in that country, that war didn't last much longer before the Russians packed up and left. If they are doing the same in Iraq, we won't need a congressional resolution to force our troops out. This has the potential to be very bad for us.

Should have never went there in the frist place. We have fool for a president. Same with South East Asia, should have never went there, what a total diaster. We have Eisenhower to blame for that one.

All 7 aboard killed in copter crash, U.S. says

A Sea Knight helicopter crashed Wednesday in an insurgent stronghold northwest of Baghdad, killing all seven people on board, the military said, the fifth chopper lost in Iraq in just over two weeks.

Another one down today, we're up to 6 in the last couple of weeks. Start looking for reports of "mechanical failure" as the military won't want to admit that they're being shot down.

Now the count is up to six in two weeks. Another merc's helicopter was shot down as well.

U.S. reports sixth helicopter downing in Iraq

A helicopter operated by a private security firm came down in Iraq last week, U.S. officials said on Thursday, an incident that marks the sixth downing of a helicopter in three weeks. The New York Times, quoting American officials, reported the helicopter was shot down south of Baghdad after insurgents attacked it with heavy-caliber ground fire. The U.S. military has confirmed that four of the six helicopters to come down in Iraq since January 20 were hit by ground fire. In all, 28 U.S. servicemen and private security contractors have been killed in the helicopter crashes.
