Molly Ivins Dies at 62 After Bout with Breast Cancer

NPR : Molly Ivins Dies at 62 After Bout with Breast Cancer
Quote:
As editor of the Texas Observer during the 1970s, Ivins became famous for her biting wit as she chronicled the political antics of the Texas legislature.

A liberal who often skewered the political establishment, Ivins wrote a book about President Bush titled Shrub: The Short but Happy Political Life of George W. Bush. It became a best seller.
Though I am not a liberal, I appreciated Molly's verve and especially her opposition to the tyrant, Bush, AKA Shrub.

RIP Molly Ivins -- There were already far too few voices like hers.

She was an original. Tough, insightful, funny, smart. She will indeed be missed.

I'd bet the farm that breast cancer had nothing to do with her death. Dig deep and discover that her death was the direct result of improper health care. Had she stayed away from doctors, she would have more than likely lived into her nineties, with or without cancer.

I am only guessing but knowing what I know about cancer treatment, she either died during surgery or due to some type of treatment (which had probably totally destroyed her immune system).

Its sad that so many people put their lives in the hands of completely clueless clowns called doctors. I bet they go to fortune tellers to plan for the future.

I haven't met anyone who died from cancer. I know a bunch of people who died with (untreated) cancer, most ranging from 90-100 years old. Of the rest, most died much earlier, from the treatment of cancer.

It's the fear of death that is slaughtering our elderly. When will it ever end?

Cancer kills you, man.

One of my friends died at age twenty-seven, a beautiful young mother with uterine cancer. She tried some natural treatments in Germany and avoided the chemo regimen recommended by the MDs here in Hawaii. She shriveled up and died.

And guess what? Humans aren't the only animals to die of cancer. It kills our pets, too. So go back to your drawing board on that issue.

Also, I am aware of at least two cases of testicular cancer that were treated with chemo and the guys are survivors today. My friend, Noah, is one and Lance Armstrong is the other.

Molly died of cancer.

I'd be willing to take that bet, though I seriously doubt that you own a farm.

As Pat said, cancer kills. I have known those who died of cancer and have family members who are cancer survivors after undergoing treatment. I have no doubt that Molly died of cancer.

Quite frankly I started our getting a kick out of Mollys prose! After a year or so of reading her rant it became obvious that it was repetitious.very slanted s and constantly addressed a single issue..." President Bush was responsible for every ill which besetsTexas, this country, and the world! President Bush was an evil man incapable of any human benevolence and wisdom..."
That recurrent theme indicated she was incapable of rational, non subjective writing. She thrived on criticism, most of it illogical nonsense...but it was cleverly written with that folksy flair so many idiots love!

Goodbye Molly, I wont miss you..I can now read Ann Coulters rant! At least Ann picks on more than one subject!

President Bush (is) an evil man incapable of any human benevolence and wisdom...
I'd say that sizes the situation up nicely.

I have close ties to Molly, though I never met her. My golf buddy's girlfriend was her researcher, so he knew and spoke with her nearly daily. He had been telling me for several weeks that her time was nigh, but asked me not to make it public.

He was laughing his ass off two weeks ago when he told me that he had put up a bird feeder in her back yard that she could see from her bed, and when next he saw her she was sitting in a chair by the window, shooting her BB gun at the squirrels who dared to steal the bird food.

He said there was definitely a twinkle in her eye as she gleefully popped the fuzzy-tailed bastards.

i liked her writing, though my experience was probably closer to xyzer's than any others. She had a great way with a phrase, as her last column proved........when she turned it in, the editors nearly flipped--she had started it off with the words, "Well, it looks like ol' GW has stepped on his dick again.....", according to Mickey, snickering and elbowing me in the arm while we rode in the cart to #4 tee box.

I doubt he'll be in the mood for such levity at next week's scramble, so I won't be bringing it up unless he does.

May you always have fair winds and following seas, Molly.

As you were.

Without attribution I believe I'll choose to think that wasn't her saying that.

It was xyzer's (strawman) statement. If Molly had written it, it wouldn't have been so flat.

That's what I thought. The little I have read of her work gave me the impression she wasn't as bluntly hostile as the "quote" indicated. People like her who use humor in their writing are rarely that direct.

Really nono? I think it sizes up your similar opinions? You must have really been steeped in Molly's repetitive rant..you even believe it?..I'll admit she had a way with the words, but really..was that constant refrain logical or even factual?
