4 troops abducted, killed in Iraq attack

4 troops abducted, killed in Iraq attack - Yahoo! News
Quote:
In perhaps the boldest and most sophisticated attack in four years of warfare, gunmen speaking English, wearing U.S. military uniforms and carrying American weapons abducted four U.S. soldiers last week at the provincial headquarters in the Shiite holy city of Karbala and then shot them to death.
Im a bit of a history buff, but i do not recall one side ever actually faking being members of the opposing force, then got them to go with them, and then took them away and shoot them
I guess this is just another thing to add to the list of "firsts" that have happened in this war

And people are talking about going to Iran? it would be the last blunder the US military/this administration ever makes, the last because it would quite literally end the US military

It's the first time in this war, but not the first time this technique has been used to infiltrate and obstruct the enemy.

In it's never ending quest to control bad news, the military first claimed that "that five soldiers were killed "repelling" the attack". It's become standard policy with this administration - control the release of news to lessen the impact on the public. Let them first get used to the idea that we lost five more of our soldiers, with just enough amplifying information, true or not, to put the issue in the best possible light for military. Later on, the truth will eventually come out, but the impact won't be nearly as great.

What the powers that be don't seem to realize, or maybe they just don't care, is the effect such dishonesty has on the military's credibility. I don't take ANYTHING this administration, or the military says as truth any more until I see corroborating information from multiple sources. bush and his cronies have made official lying an Olympic event, and they are all gold medal winners in it.

"The confirmation came after nearly a week of inquiries. The U.S. military in Baghdad initially did not respond to repeated requests for comment on reports that began emerging from Iraqi government and military officials on the abduction and a major breakdown in security at the Karbala site."

exactly right Zee, i actually use to believe the military before i believed the administration because for the simple fact i thought that military types wouldnt lie about things as serious as war.
now that just sounds silly

The attackers captured four soldiers and fled with them and the computer
I wonder if it was a random attack or was an investigation on that computer?

ROFL i missed that.
i wonder if its an alien ware computer?

the attack looks like it was carried out to make troops start looking at each other with a little more caution, mostly troops that have never seen each other anyway.

Theres is a chance even Iraqi security forces will turn their backs on US troops. Although Cock Cheney had denied it, I think it's possible. After all, the issue of motherland is much bigger than Saddam or Sunnis.

Sigh.... .you're gonna make me do that? It was common practice in WWII with allied special ops going behind enemy lines for sabotage reasons and collecting information..... it was the grounds for the spy tactics during the Cold War.

Man.... now I gotta figure out how to search for that..... just a second.

The raid says a lot about the US military's arrogance and the insurgency's ability to adapt. It required considerable planning, preparation and sophistication to pull off the raid. They used US vehicles, uniforms and weapons, spoke English and penetrated a secure compound, got in and out with prisoners. Scary.

i didnt find anything there were soilders were confronted face to face with enemy soilders in the same uniform, then abducted them and killed them?

sabotage, behind enemy lines special ops kind of thing is not what happened here.

During the Battle of the Bulge groups of English speaking German troops in US uniforms in US vehicles, even including tanks, caused considerable confusion and were responsible for the deaths of US soldiers.

Quote:
"The weather was frightful - bitterly cold and snowing, with a high wind howling through the dark," wrote Gardner Botsford in his 2003 memoir, "A Life of Privilege, Mostly." "To make matters worse, the panzer troops were using a number of captured Sherman tanks still bearing their American markings. You could be shot dead by your own tanks. And there was more. To create even greater chaos, hundreds of German parachutists - English-speaking parachutists, wearing American uniforms - were being dropped in."

and I am sure the battle of the bulge was not the first time, infiltrating an enemy camp by pretending to be one of them is an old trick.

it is intereasting to note that they stole a computer. I wonder if that was planned.
