CSIS investigating letter threatening FLQ attacks:

CTV.ca | CSIS investigating letter threatening FLQ attacks

The ChronicleHerald.ca

Quote:
MONTREAL -- The RCMP is taking "very seriously'' a recent threatening letter signed by a group claiming to be a new cell of the FLQ, a Quebec terrorist group active in the 1960s and 1970s.

The letter, dated Jan. 15, says "strategic targets of importance'' will be targeted in the western, largely English-speaking part of Montreal between Feb. 15 and March 15.
If you never heard of the FLQ:

Quote:
The FLQ was a pro-sovereigntist terrorist group that carried out a campaign of bombings in the 1960s and sparked the 1970 October Crisis when a British diplomat was kidnapped and then Quebec labour minister Pierre Laporte was kidnapped and later killed.
Now why the hell they're back in action I have no clue..... the only thing I see this as, is either a copy cat kid trying to act cool for shits and giggles, or it is indeed the FLQ and they're back to attempt to push for Quebec's separation from Canada.

It very well could be, considering not too long ago, the political party in power (The Conservatives) passed a bill stating that Quebec will be recognized as a "Nation within Canada."

There was a lot of heat about this, considering it could and apparently did open a big can of worms for those wanting Quebec as being a Nation straight out, and helped them to possibly open the door to the concept later on.

This could have fueled the above. The thing that bugged me in the beginning of this "Nation within Canada" thing is that it's trying to make Quebec as more special over all the other provinces, because they speak french. Well if any of you ever knew anything about Newfoundland, they've got their own friggin language going on up there, with their strong fishing accent..... what makes Quebec more special then them or anybody else?

And to what end do these FLQ fanatics trying to get at?

Seems as though this might turn out to be true. And with outside influences fueling them, it could be a reality:

The ChronicleHerald.ca

Quote:
Prime Minister Stephen Harper harkened back to one of the stormiest chapters of Canada-France relations to remind the woman who could be the next French president to butt out of Canada’s national unity debate.

Segolene Royal, who’s been nominated to lead France’s Socialist Party in the next election, evoked echoes of Charles de Gaulle’s exhortation of "Vivre le Quebec libre" in 1967.

Asked for her thoughts about Quebec’s future after a short meeting with Parti Quebecois Leader Andre Boisclair in Paris on Monday, Royal said the province and France have common values, including "sovereignty and Quebec’s freedom."

That triggered a swift and pointed response from Harper to Royal, who has never visited Quebec.

"Experience teaches that it is highly inappropriate for a foreign leader to interfere in the democratic affairs of another country," he said in a statement from Ottawa.

"We look forward to marking the 400th anniversary of the founding of Canada at Quebec City with the next president of France.

"We expect in turn that the next president will display an understanding of our shared history, and the respect for Canada and Canadians that such an important partnership requires."

Then French president Charles de Gaulle caused a diplomatic storm in 1967 when he ended a speech at Montreal city hall with "Vive le Quebec libre (Long live free Quebec)" as the province grappled with the budding sovereigntist movement.
How come I have a strong feeling that France has something to do with both situations?

quebec seperationists are the biggest bunch of nationalist idiots that has ever been. A bunch of snobby xenophobes who push for change simply for the fun of it. There is no good reason to want to seperate from the rest of Canada. It's retarded. And even worse is the fact that they want to seperate and be a foreign nation, yet retain all the benefits of being part of canada, such as currency, army, etc.

Yeah, that's what I don't get.... I seriously think they never thought things through.

If they do become their own nation, guess what? All their imports will have to travel through Canada. The Military bases and the equipment we have there in Quebec would be removed and relocated. They would have to form their own currency, government, laws, etc etc..... I seriously don't think they have the know how to do this.

All they know how to do is to complain and complain until they get what they want, threatening separation, because that's their only card they can play..... and people suck it up.
