Well well well....passive resistance from the Palestinians? This could really provide a nightmare for the Israelis.

i'm not holding my breath that the israelis won't attack them in future instances.. as it is, the israelis have a solid track record of targeting civilians, then excusing their atrocities by alleging that there were rebels amongst them. any excuse is a good excuse to fire tank shells and rockets into civilian crowds.

but, good for the palestinians.. hopefully they'll continue to pursue this tactic - and i only hope that the israelis prove me wrong and act like human beings rather than savages.

I think distrust and greed keep Palestinians and Israelis apart and the Muslims under the thumb of the Jews there. The Muslim Palestinians have good reason to distrust the Israeli Jews, they have only suffered as a consequence of the transplanted population from Europe.

In the region everywhere it is Muslims and then there's this pocket of transplanted Europeans in the middle of a fairly arid and desolate landscape. The generosity of the gringan subsidy is everywhere aparent the moment you cross the border. You see the quality of the pavement, the power lines and substations, drainage ditches and emergency lanes, call boxes and road signs.

In addition to the ineffable wrongfulness of this foreign imposition, the neighboring populations all suffer in comparative poverty. The Muslims who have survived half a century of active repression, expoliation, expropriation and exploitation within the ever expanding Israeli borders, have endured every deceit at all times in each transaction ever engaged in with a Jew -how could they feel trust?

Good faith is what the Muslim requires. Muslims in the Palestine need to see Jews there recognize affinity with the land is part of the country's identity. The uprooting of olive trees must stop, the refugees must be allowed to return, their land claims recognized. Israel needs to try and integrate the disparate chunks of Palestine they've carved out, they can't periodically demolish the poor infrastructure the Palestinians manage to put together. The Palestinians cannot be held as a captive population admitted through gates into their jobs and then evacuating by night to darkened desolate war-scarred shanty-towns along their perifery.

The US is to blame for lots of this. The US should start reducing its Israeli subsidies. Leave the military stuff alone for now, but start cutting back on the non-military to wean them off this united statian bankroll.
