US 'to probe new Iraq killings'

link. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/5134106.stm .
Quote:
The US military has opened a probe into the alleged killing of an Iraqi family by US soldiers, military officials say.
Five soldiers are being investigated for allegedly raping a woman and killing her and three members of her family, an unnamed official told AP.
Do you think this type of action helps the coalition of the willing.

Which action are you referring to? The alleged rape and murder of Iraqis, including children by U S personnel, or the investigation into the alleged crime?

The US soldiers have been dropped into a situation where they are too few in number, not properly trained and given "rules of engagment" by their commanders which almost guarantees high civilian casualties. All that being said, Bush should have never launched us into this unnecessary and illegal invasion and occupation.

Yes all the soldiers are doing nothing more than there job, yes the soldiers are doing a grand job, all but a few, we have Saddam now, so should we have left then, wmd weapons as we know now they are not there, so why are we still there. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. why as civilized people are we letting this happen. We as civilized people are that scared of power hungry Hitlers, my grandfather was not scared off Hitler in world war 2 so why are we as a people scared of these Hitlers. Not unless all these people following Hitler want what Hitler wanted back in world war two, now thats scary.

“There is no indication what led soldiers to this home. The investigation just cracked open. We’re just beginning to dig into the details.”

However, a U.S. official close to the investigation said at least one of the soldiers, all assigned to the 502nd Infantry Regiment, has admitted his role and been arrested. Two soldiers from the same regiment were slain this month when they were kidnapped at a checkpoint near Youssifiyah.

The official told the AP the accused soldiers were from the same platoon as the two slain soldiers. The military has said one and possibly both of the slain soldiers were tortured and beheaded.¨

sounds to me like some of the slain/raped girls family were out for revenge

GIs may have planned Iraq rape, slayings
Quote:
Investigators believe American soldiers spent nearly a week plotting an attack in which they raped an Iraqi woman, then killed her and her family in an insurgent-ridden area south of Baghdad, a U.S. military official said Saturday.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing, said the attack appeared "totally premeditated" and that the soldiers apparently "studied" the family for about a week before carrying out the attack.
Just to provide an overview of the current and recent cases:

Slain Iraqi girl feared soldiers

snip
Fifteen-year-old Abeer Qasim Hamza was afraid, her mother confided to a neighbor.

The pretty girl had attracted the unwelcome attention of U.S. soldiers working at a checkpoint that she had to pass through almost daily in their village in the south-central city of Al-Mahmudiyah,
Death certificates viewed Sunday at the Al-Mahmudiyah hospital identified the victims as Fakhriyah Taha Muhsin, 34, killed by gunshots to her head; Qasim Hamza Raheem, 45, whose head was ``smashed'' by bullets; Hadeel Qasim Hamza, 7, shot to death; and Abeer, shot in the head. Abeer's body also showed burns, the death certificate said.

Apparently there is.

--"Fifteen-year-old Abeer Qasim Hamza was afraid, her mother confided in a neighbor. As pretty as she was young, the girl had attracted the unwelcome attention of U.S. soldiers manning a checkpoint that the girl had to pass through almost daily in their village in the south-central city of Mahmudiya, her mother told the neighbor."--

If this had happened in the streets of America, you know what every righteous conservative would be demanding, right?

The death penalty.

And a trial that results in a finding of guilt.

As is proper. Lynching, after all is murder, just as was the shooting of a 15 year old girl, her 7 year old brother, and her mother and father.

Lt. Pantano was similarly charged by a fellow soldier of murdering Iraqis. His trial found him not guilty. I hope that this case ends in the same way,

But let the facts win out.

her mother
Fakhriyah Taha Muhsin, was 34 so for the dead girl to be 20 her mum would have to got pregnant at 13, but it really shouldnt make a difference, raped by three and killed is still a war crime

If the victims age is of no import, why is it so oft cited?

I agree that her age holds little import, but the repeaters of the 15 year allegation know full well that to many, the difference is an important, visceral one.

The news reports say she was fifteen when she was allegedly raped and murdered by US troops. Her brother was seven when he was murdered. No one has alleged that they were terrorists, though that may come.

One ex-soldier, Steven Green, was arrested today in North Carolina. One hopes he recieves a fair trail, unlike so many held by the military these days.
