Gaza power plant hit by Israeli airstrike is insured by US agency

WASHINGTON -- The Palestinian power plant bombed by Israeli forces Tuesday is insured by a US government agency, and US officials say they expect American funds to be used to pay for the damage

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel's bombing of Gaza's main power plant could end up costing its closest ally, the U.S. government, because it partially insured the project for up to $48 million, officials involved in the project said on Saturday.

A Western aid official involved in the matter said Israel's decision to hit the power plant was a surprise in large part "because it was American-owned."

it was planned

the Justice Ministry said Thursday.

The detention of Hamas parliamentarians in the early hours of Thursday morning had been planned several weeks ago and received approval from Mazuz on Wednesday. The same day, Shin Bet Director Yuval Diskin presented Prime Minister Ehud Olmert with the list of Hamas officials slated for detention.

It is a double-edged sword! Either they let the Hamas Terrorist execute the soldier, similar to the innocent settler that was just butcher and show weakness to their enemy's the are all around them and wish to destroy them.

Or they show strength and attack in an attempt to save the soldier, but look like hipprocritcs!

Obviously choose the second.

However they are being forced to cooperate with an uncooperative terrorist government (Hamas). Whose only will only negotiate each and every Israeli coming suicide and all of Israel becoming a Palestine State. They will accept nothing less. It is apparrent now more than ever. They have have their own state in arms length, but they refuse to take it since it would mean no more violence and war. Yet we criticize the Israel when they don't want to accept this.

I have said it once and I will say it again. If Hamas denounces violence and acceptances Israel as a true neighbor they would have gotten a free and independent states years ago.

In fact at the Camp David Accords they were offerd 98% of what they wanted. Yet they turned it down!!! But Yea the Israel are the aggressors, since they won't kill themselves.

Yet they still attack and refuse to denounce terror. Call me crazy Mr. Moderator, but stating you will recognize Israel, but then attack her is really not recognize her right to exsist.

"It is true that the situation in Gaza in inconvenient. So let it be inconvenient for those engaging in terror," Olmert told cabinet ministers.

Olmert briefed ministers on talks he held with United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan. "Although it is inconvenient without electricity, but rockets kill," Olmert reportedly told Annan, referring to daily Qassam fire from the northern Gaza Strip towards Israe
lmert said Israel has not and will not allow a humanitarian crisis to occur in the Gaza Strip, but will no longer tolerate terror attacks emanating from Gaza.

Palestinian gunmen waged an attack on an Israel Defense Forces outpost near Gaza last Sunday, killing two soldiers and kidnapping Corporal Gilad Shalit.

This situation brings us to a double-edged war: Against terror emanating from Gaza and against Qassam fire. I bear responsibility for what is happening today in Gaza and I told the army that I want no one to be able to sleep at night in Gaza to give them a sense of what our communities in the south endure…No one died of inconvenience, but Qassams are deadly," he said.

I had hoped for more from Olmert. My conclustion is that Israel --well, those who run it -- want perpetual warfare as a way of perpetually justifying occupation of their territorial fetishes.

Yes because Israel was the one that offered 98% of the lands to the Palestinians in the Camp David Accords, which the PLO rejected. It is the Palestinians that elected a government that calls for Israel's destruction in their charter, which they refuse to denounce. Yet we expect the Israelis to negotiate with these people. How do you sign a peace plan with a group of people that has called for your destruction. This is not only an illogical, but an irrogant request!

Switzerland says Israel has clearly violated international law by imposing collective punishment on Palestinians over the capture of an Israeli soldier.
Switzerland is the "depository" state of the Geneva Conventions.

They prohibit the deliberate targeting of services essential to the civilian population, like water and electricity.

The statement from Switzerland comes amid growing concern among aid agencies at the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Neutral Switzerland does not often venture into political controversy. But this statement is likely to cause some irritation in Israel and the United States.

. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said a Palestinian rocket attack on the Israeli city of Ashkelon marked a "major escalation" in Hamas's warfare.
Now it can get out of total control.
