US-led forces 'kill 65 Taleban'

US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan say they have killed at least 65 Taleban militants in recent offensives in the south. Coalition and Afghan forces attacked a large group of militants and fought a three-hour battle in Zharie district in Kandahar province on Friday. Troops fought a five-hour battle on the same day with Taleban fighters in neighbouring Uruzgan province. Violence in Afghanistan has soared in recent months.

I thought there was a government in Afghanistan, the taleban had been paid off with the dollar. or is this the start of a fight back. Waited and waited and learned like they did with the USSR armed forces, look what happened there. Is history going to repeat itself just like one of the other super powers USSR, which came and lost.

Largely off America's radar screen since we invaded Iraq, our presence in Afghanistan today stands pretty much exactly where the Soviets stood at this point of their occupation... the puppet regime in control of Kabul, a few cities and little else, with the resistance controlling much of the countryside and slowly growing.
