| Igneous Magma Posts: 674 | Alert after chemical plant blasts Several explosions have taken place at a chemical works plant in Billingham, Teesside, police have said. Cleveland Fire and Rescue declared a "major emergency" at the plant but said the situation was now under control. A spokesman said a release of ammonia had been contained but could not say whether the leak was responsible for the blasts which began about 0015 BST. Cleveland Police said one worker at the Terra Nitrogen UK site was treated for shock as a result of the explosions. Roads in the area have been closed to traffic and residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution. A fire brigade spokesman said its response was being scaled down but crews would remain at the site which Terra acquired from ICI in 1998.link http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/5035734.stm I hope the wind does not blow my way.
