    Superman renounces U.S. citizenship

Superman renounces U.S. citizenship, focus globally, in latest comic

Superman has started a stir with a declaration ... that he intends to renounce his U.S. citizenship because he’s tired of his actions being construed as instruments of U.S. policy.
It's about time. Truth and justice are laudable values, but fighting for the "American Way" is fighting for enrichment of the rich, the denial of human rights, torture, war crimes, military adventurism, and diverse economic crimes against Americans and non-Americans.

Perhaps Clark Kent will begin to write stories now that expose the festering underbelly of the American Way and those whom it serves: the insatiable malicious rich.

Aww c'mon.. this is HUGE breaking news.... Just like when Captain America was killed, like when Bruce Wayne's back was broken.... important stuff.

I'm cracking wise, but I do like comics, and they are an interesting forum to push social issues, and in the world of comics, this is a big topic. Superman has always been very idealistic and a "simple" character... good to see him get some more "layers".

I loved the way the "Dark Knight Returns" graphic novel by Frank Miller really kinda hung Superman out to dry as a complete kiss ass to the US government...

I wasn't aware that Superman ever was an American citizen in the first place. He wasn't born here and I have never heard that he went through the naturalization process to become a citizen. In fact, it seems to me that he is actually an illegal immigrant.

Good point, theophilus. If he can't produce a valid birth certificate I think we should deport him.

According to the Crash Test Dummies "Superman never made any money." He may qualify for social assistance and food stamps.

haha, I found this link when I was searching to see if Superman ever became a citizen... a long time ago an IRS agent served Superman to make him pay taxes... to the tune of one billion dollars!

Superman tries to raise the money in various ways... including having Aquaman give him a giant pearl to sell... but in the end.. it all works out.. the boss of the overzealous IRS agent informs Superman that he can claim all the tax paying citizens of the US as "dependents", each for a $600 credit.. which wipes out his dept.

Hey, I read the synopsis of the Superman arc from the OP, and you know what.. sounds like Supes was getting the United States in trouble... He goes over there to Tehran to support the protests, and the maniacs see it as the United States getting involved with their policies.. So now the US is in trouble cuz Superman's gotta get involved..... crazy hippie.

Now lets think this through... the US never told Superman what to do... and if we did, he certainly wouldn't be a part of anything shady, because we all know Ma and Pa Kent taught him right.. So we can assume that everything Superman has done pretty much was his idea all along... AND that Superman always does the right thing. So what difference will that make if he "renounces" his US ties.. and now acts more "globally".. he's still gonna do the same stuff... not like he's gonna get more political, or go off the rails..

of course he might have to change uniforms to something more neutral...
