Face it folks, ya can't marry your sister because everyone thinks it's repulsive.
Times change.

If it makes you happy, then they could put a risk percentage on it, and anyone who knowingly has a child that has, say a 10% or more risk of genetic disease, then they have to finance the medical bills. Risk factors are obvious and easy to calculate.
People with disabled children should not be financing medical bills on their own. Have you ever looked into the prices for electric wheelchairs?

What about other issues? Accidental overdose? Skateboarding? Playing basketball? Working at a construction site? Risks exist everywhere -- to limit medical aid because the individual was aware of these risks is absolutely ridiculous. Hell, we may as well remove public health care altogether.

If the parents are related, they need to take responsibility for their decision.
There are plenty of kids out there who are begging to be adopted - why should they have a disabled child of their own that someone else has to pay for, when they can adopt an underprivileged child?
If they don't want to pay for electric wheelchairs, then adopt. Its that simple.

We make decisions that might put ourselves at risk of a one-off accident.. but that is completely different to knowingly conceiving a child that would be dependent on medical aid for their entire life. If I fall off my skateboard, I'm going to get better.

Public health care is stretched enough as it is - can we really afford to pay for other peoples irresponsibility? Like you said, wheel chairs are expensive. Someone has to pay for it - the money going into health care isn't going to magically increase - so that means someone else is going to miss out.

Sure they do, but they haven't yet reached the stage when they think incest is OK.

It's in our human nature to want to pass on our own genes. It's no surprise that many parents would rather have a biological child than an adopted child.

Of course, the woman who conceives such a child rarely does so knowingly.

Skateboarders don't jump with the knowledge that they will suffer an injury that requires life-long medical aid. They may be aware of such a risk, but it's ridiculous to claim that they "know" what the result of the jump will be.

There are many cases where a single car, sport or drug accident has resulted in continued medical/therapeutic attention throughout one's life.

I agree. That's why incest currently is not OK.

I don't have a sister but my opinion is if too adults who happen to be related as brother and sister want to get married then i won't stop them, there are issues some people raise about the increased chanced of deformity in the offspring, this is true but at the end of day why should some other outside entity force their beliefs on another person/s who is not harming anyone or thing. I regret having to state the fact about deformity as I know a lot of people who would be generalised as so, but I can tell you those people are the most honest, kindest and loving people i have ever met.

"Homer" Statistics can be used to prove anything, 14% of people know that.
