| One of the ways is through smell. Everyone gives off a certain smell that tells the opposite sex whether or not we have opposing immune systems. Opposing immune systems means kids with better all round immune systems, so we are attracted to those with different immune systems. Family members usually have similar immune systems, therefore similar smells, so we usually arn't attracted to family members.
