their stated purpose is not to divide, or strengthen existing divisions, but imo, a side-effect of their existance is division. you could have white-specific groups like the kkk and neo-nazis.. sure, blacks aren't prevented from trying to join, but why would they want to? by contrast, would you want to join up with the black panthers and go out to kill whitey?

i remember at my old job, they had all sorts of multicultural events. gay pride month, asian-pacific month, hispanic month.. i never saw anything for a caucasian group. maybe that's because whites as a whole see race-specific groups as stupid, and don't want to continue the trend? either that or minorities would look at them suspiciously and label them racists?
