The GOP has been on the other hand, more open to the religious, agains gay marriage, abortion, and for free expression of religion.
That I think, is the main reason that George W. Bush won re-election despite the polls, despite the millions of dollars poured into 527 groups against him.
And from the reaction of the DNC pundits, supporters and movers and shakers... I don't see this trend changing anytime soon.
