congress needs to cut the pork, end the war, end giveaways to corporations, dissolve the homeland defense department, end welfare to foreign countries, etc... doing things like that will give us a balanced budget AND it will keep the tax burden low. in such a scenario, it's likely that government revenues would be in surplus, meaning that we can pay off our debt with the excess. and doing this wouldn't cramp the economy whatsoever.
