| O Liberty, thou art the god of my idolatry! Liberty does not like bended knees. In Liberties vast and un-walled temple, beneath the roofless dome, star-gemmed and luminous with suns, believers stand erect! Believers of Liberty do not cringe, or crawl, or bend their foreheads to the earth. The dust has never borne the impress of their lips. Liberty does not ask mothers to sacrifice their babes, nor human kind their rights. Liberty does not ask of human kind for things that good folk hate -- the whip, the chain, the dungeon key. Liberty has no popes, no priests, who stand between their fellow men and Liberty. Liberty does not care about foolish forms, or selfish prayers. At Liberties sacred shrine hypocrisy does not bow, superstition's feeble tapers do not burn, virtue does not tremble, but reason holds aloft an inextinguishable torch whose holy light will one day flood the world.
