that's how challengers are supposed to run their campaign, according to conventional wisdom.
elections are always about the encumbent, challengers normally focus on attacking their performance rather than pushing their own policies.
at least that's what i've heard pundits say.
mind you, it's hard work convincing evangelicals to surrender their faith.
