| It doesn't matter much WHICH of them won. Just like in the campaigns it's pretty apparent that half of the country will hate the winner. If you thought Kerry was a liar or Bush was an asshole BEFORE last night your feelings won't change much when one is officially the President.
There used to be a little thing called a "mandate" presidents would seek to validate their victory as a sign the better part of the country WANTED them in and accepted them as their leader. This allowed them to put their own agenda forward in the knowledge thaty the country KNEW what he wanted and approved.
When the dust settles, Bush or Kerry will inherit a country just as bitterly divided as it was a week ago.
Unfortunately, it looks like this is the kind of election we can expect from now on.
