Lines are long and so is controversy in Las Vegas.

Poll watchers are being accused if intimidating voters. Voters are receiving phone calls telling them to beat the crowds and vote between 7pm and 9pm. The polls close at 7pm. I will find out more later on the voter intimidation both sides are accusing the other of electioneering inside the polling places.

I just had to sit through a CNN report about a woman who went to vote on a Florida electronic voting machine. She voted straight Democratic across the ticket, but the machine showed that she had voted for Bush and the entire Republican slate. She had to get the poll workers, and then a lawyer performing poll watching duties, to get involved. That machine was eventually taken off-line, and the woman was able to vote the way she wanted.

Millions of votes will be cast on these machines in Florida, Ohio and across the country. Reports like this are infuriating, especially given the fact that activists like Bev Harris and Andy Stephensen have been running themselves ragged all across the country for a year warning of problems exactly like this. It is a curiously American phenomenon: We need to take a baseball bat smash across the face before we get motivated to fix problems.
And some more interesting stories. 'Course most of us are at work and can't sneak a peek at what's goin' on. But if ya get the chance...
